Brent Oxley

Brent Oxley is best known as the founder of HostGator, one of the world's largest web-hosting companies. A college dropout, he started HostGator in 2002 with roughly $1,000 and grew it — largely as a bootstrapped, self-funded operation — into an industry leader with more than 1,000 employees, upwards of $100–120 million in annual revenue, and millions of websites hosted. He served as CEO from founding until May 2010, when he transitioned to Chairman.

In 2012 Oxley sold HostGator to Endurance International Group (EIG) for a figure widely reported around $225 million (EIG disclosed an aggregate purchase price of roughly $299.8 million). The exit made him wealthy in his early 30s and freed him to pursue a mix of angel investing, premium-domain acquisition, and unconventional ventures.

Post-exit, Oxley became a prolific premium-domain investor, acquiring one-word .com names such as RX.com (reportedly ~$1M), Realty.com (seven figures), Create.com (~$3M), Help.com, Broker.com, Texas.com, Bachelor.com, Rookie.com, Give.com, and Dust.com. He has repeatedly signaled interest in returning to the hosting business, at one point announcing plans to launch a new hosting company under the Create.com brand from Houston, positioning it around the customer service and uptime he felt eroded after the EIG sale.

His most visible venture today is Ox Ranch, an 18,000+ acre exotic-game hunting and adventure resort in Uvalde, Texas (Texas Hill Country), home to 90+ animal species. He also runs DriveTanks.com, a tank- and heavy-weapons driving experience on the ranch. Inc. profiled the ranch as a fast-growing business (cited growth of ~1,965%). He lives in Texas with his wife Vanessa and their children.
