Background

Brian Chase is a finance and operations executive with more than two decades in alternative asset management. He earned a B.S. in Accounting from the State University of New York at Binghamton (1999) and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of New York. He began his career in 1999 at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he spent roughly two years auditing hedge funds, before joining Fortress Investment Group in 2002 at the inception of its credit business. He subsequently served as Chief Financial Officer of the Distressed Securities business at The Blackstone Group, which launched in 2005, where he was responsible for building and overseeing the fund's infrastructure and operations.

In 2007, Chase co-founded Garrison Investment Group as a Founding Partner, where he served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer (holding the CFO/Treasurer title through March 2019 and the COO title thereafter) and sat on the firm's Management and Investment Committees. He managed essentially all non-investment functions of the firm — personnel, capital markets, investor relations, marketing, legal, accounting, operations, tax, administration, and regulatory compliance — and helped grow the firm's equity capital under management to approximately $4.5 billion. He led Garrison's entry into the CLO business, closing more than $5 billion of securitizations and other financings, and incubated and led the public offering of Garrison Capital Inc. (NASDAQ: GARS), a business development company, where he served as COO and as a director.

Chase left Garrison in 2020 to become the first-ever Chief Operating Officer of Madison Realty Capital, a vertically integrated real estate private equity firm focused on debt and equity strategies. In November 2021 he was named Chief Operating Officer of Brevet Capital Management, a New York–based specialty-finance manager, where he works with CEO/CIO and co-founder Doug Monticciolo to oversee day-to-day business and enhance the firm's technology, infrastructure, risk management, strategic planning, and new product platforms. Because his contact record here still carries a garrisoninv.com email address, note that this email is likely stale following his moves to Madison Realty Capital and then Brevet Capital.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Operates as a COO/CFO — an operations, finance, and infrastructure leader — rather than a deal-sourcing principal or angel; his "thesis" is institutional fund-building, not writing startup checks.
  • Career centered on private credit and specialty finance: distressed securities (Blackstone), credit-fund launches (Fortress), CLOs and securitizations (Garrison), and government/agency financing (Brevet).
  • At Brevet, the strategy emphasizes downside protection through specialty finance, with customized financing solutions and a ~20-year track record of partnering with U.S. state, federal, and international government agencies.
  • Deep expertise in fund structuring, capital markets, securitization, tax, accounting, and regulatory compliance — the operational scaffolding behind multi-billion-dollar credit platforms.

Notable Investments

  • Garrison Capital Inc. (NASDAQ: GARS) — Publicly listed business development company (BDC) that Chase incubated and took public; he served as COO and board director.
  • Garrison Investment Group CLO platform — Led Garrison's entry into CLOs, closing over $5 billion of securitizations and other financings.
  • Garrison Investment Group (overall) — Grew equity capital under management to approximately $4.5 billion as founding COO/CFO.
  • Blackstone Distressed Securities business — Built and oversaw the fund infrastructure and operations for Blackstone's distressed debt strategy from its 2005 launch.
  • Fortress Investment Group credit business — Joined at the inception of Fortress's credit platform in 2002.
