Brien Morgan

Brien Morgan is a Northern Virginia–based executive, merchant banker, and angel investor who describes himself as a financial technologist working at the intersection of M&A and technology. He is currently Managing Partner and a Board Member at SIO LLC (since January 2022), based in McLean, Virginia. For more than two decades he was Managing Partner and Board Member at Détente Group LLC (roughly 2002–2025), a McLean-based merchant banking and strategic-consulting boutique that provides investment banking, financial advisory, and strategic-consulting services to corporations (from closely held middle-market firms to Fortune 100 multinationals) as well as to US and sovereign governments. Between those roles he was also Managing Partner and Board Member at Purifi LLC (2020–2022), and earlier CEO, President, and Board Member of Portris Inc.

Before founding and running his own advisory and investment vehicles, Morgan spent his career in aerospace, defense, and satellite telecommunications. He was a Corporate Senior Vice President at Lockheed Martin (approximately 1998–2001), with responsibilities that included IT-as-a-Service and network solutions lines of business (roles referenced as GM of Global Network Solutions and involvement with Exostar, the aerospace/defense collaboration platform). Prior to Lockheed Martin, he was Vice President of Global Telecommunications at PanAmSat Corporation (approximately 1990–1998) and an International Executive for Latin America at Hughes (approximately 1989–1990). He began his career in management roles at IGT in the mid-to-late 1980s.

Morgan holds an MBA from Babson College and a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (BEE) from The Catholic University of America, and completed additional coursework at Providence College. His combination of an engineering foundation, large-cap operating experience in satellite/telecom and defense IT, and a long run as a merchant banker informs both his advisory practice and his angel investing.
