Background

Bunmi Akinyemiju is a serial technology entrepreneur, software builder, and venture capital investor with more than two decades of experience spanning the United States and Africa. He has been developing software since the early 1990s. After moving to the U.S. to study, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from Michigan State University (2000) and holds Microsoft MCSD and MCAD certifications in the .NET platform. While still a student he co-founded Artemis Systems, leading enterprise software and digital-transformation projects across healthcare, government, and manufacturing.

In 2006 he founded and served as CEO of Enliven Software, an East Lansing, Michigan LLC behind the e-invoicing and e-payments product Fidesic, which he grew from concept to profitability. This marked his formal entry into fintech, combining technology, payments infrastructure, and enterprise trust. He was also active in the local business community, serving as a board member of the Small Business Association of Michigan.

Akinyemiju went on to co-found Venture Garden Group (VGG), a technology holding company focused on solving reconciliation and payment-processing inefficiencies across sectors of the African economy, where he serves as Founder and CEO. In 2014 he helped launch GreenHouse Capital as VGG's venture arm, where he is a founding/managing partner (alongside co-founders including Kunmi Demuren). GreenHouse has grown into one of Sub-Saharan Africa's largest fintech-focused funds by portfolio size, backing 20–25+ companies.

Beyond investing, Akinyemiju is an ecosystem builder and policy advocate. He has served as Head of the Digital Economy Policy Commission at the Nigerian Economic Summit Group, sits on the board of United Way Greater Nigeria, and champions Vibranium Valley as a pan-African innovation hub. In 2017 he was named by the United Nations among the top 100 Most Influential People of African Descent in Business and Entrepreneurship.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests at pre-seed and seed, typically writing checks of ~$150K–$250K (and $250K–$500K in frontier markets like Uganda), with Fund II blending debt and equity and testing catalytic capital, venture studios, and joint ventures.
  • Core thesis is "founders backing founders" — an operator-led approach betting on entrepreneurs who have built and operated before.
  • "At GreenHouse Capital, we're not just looking for good ideas—we're looking for founders who are obsessed with solving real problems."
  • Prioritizes resilience over hype: "Don't chase unicorn status for the sake of it. Build a solid, sustainable business that solves a real problem, and the funding will follow."
  • Focuses on fintech and the "Fintech Future" of banking, plus education and renewable energy; increasingly interested in deep-tech, manufacturing, and industrial infrastructure.
  • Frames returns as IIR — "Irreversible Infrastructure Returns": backing startups that become national utilities and founders who become ecosystem builders, favoring patient, compounding value over fast flips.
  • Contrarian geographic bet on East Africa: "Everyone else is looking west, but the signal is coming from the east," calling Uganda "one of the most underrated markets in Africa right now."
