Background

C. Scott Perry is a Partner at Sentinel Capital Partners, a New York–based private equity firm founded in 1995 by David S. Lobel and John F. McCormack that focuses on the lower and middle market. Perry joined Sentinel in 2004 as an Associate and rose through the firm to become one of its tenured partners. He focuses on the firm's Industrials and Business Services investments and currently sits on the boards of Sentinel portfolio companies including MCA, SPL, Total Military Management, TriMech, and UBEO.

Before Sentinel, Perry was an Analyst in the M&A Group at Wachovia Securities, where he advised on transactions involving midmarket private equity firms — experience that fed directly into his deal-sourcing and execution work at Sentinel. He earned a BS in Finance and Accounting, with honors, from the University of Virginia's McIntire School of Commerce (graduating in 2002).

Sentinel has raised more than $11.2 billion since inception and pursues friendly, majority-ownership transactions — management buyouts, carve-outs and divestitures, family-business acquisitions, going-private deals, and special situations — typically committing $100M–$350M of equity to companies with roughly $15M–$80M of EBITDA. In its December 2022 fundraise, Sentinel closed $5.2 billion across its seventh private equity fund and its second structured/capital-solutions fund. In March 2025, the firm announced a leadership succession plan elevating Eric Bommer to managing partner as eventual successor to founder David Lobel; Perry was named among the firm's core group of tenured partners (alongside Owen Basham, Jim Coady, Michael Fabian, Paul Murphy, Garrett Schires, and John Van Sickle).

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests as a control/majority buyer, not a minority venture or seed investor — Sentinel "pursues friendly majority-owned transactions" partnering with founders, family owners, corporate sellers, and management teams.
  • Targets established, cash-generative companies with roughly $15M–$80M of EBITDA, deploying ~$100M–$350M of equity per platform.
  • Perry personally concentrates on Industrials and Business Services — looking for market leaders with recurring revenue, high margins, strong free cash flow, and fragmented-industry consolidation potential.
  • In his own words on the UBEO deal, he prizes "a regional market leader with a stable, highly recurring business model, high margins and strong free cash flow characteristics… a scalable platform and ideal for consolidating its highly fragmented industry."
  • On the Nekoosa acquisition he framed the thesis as partnering "with a differentiated industry leader that draws on a unique, niche product offering that is considered the 'gold standard' in its markets."

Notable Investments

  • UBEO Business Services (acquired 2018) — Texas's largest independent office-equipment/document-management dealer; buy-and-build platform in a fragmented industry. Perry led and boards it.
  • Nekoosa (acquired 2017) — specialty paper, films, and graphics-substrate products; later sold to Appvion (a Wynnchurch Capital portfolio company), a completed exit.
  • TriMech — engineering/3D-design software and services reseller; expanded via add-ons such as Solid Solutions Group. Perry boards it.
  • SPL — laboratory/testing services platform; Perry boards it.
  • MCA — Sentinel portfolio company on which Perry serves as a director.
  • Total Military Management — military household-goods relocation services; Perry boards it.
