- Private equity / family office and active-ownership investment partnership — not a classic startup angel (the stub's "Angel Investors" label appears to be an aggregator mislabel)

Background
Casper Balling is a Danish investment professional trained as an economist (cand.oecon./finance specialization) at Aarhus University. He began his career at Deloitte Financial Advisory, working in the Financial Management Advisory (FMA) / Corporate Finance team, where he advised on company valuations, financial modeling, and debt and capital structuring.
He then joined Executive Capital — a Copenhagen-based investment partnership (founded 2007, headquartered at Vesterbrogade 24A, 1620 København V) in which experienced businesspeople jointly and actively invest in small and medium-sized Danish companies. As Investment Manager, Balling was responsible for financial analysis across the investment process, including valuation and due diligence. He supported the firm's director in managing and coordinating deal flow, screened investment opportunities, and advised the partners during transactions. Beyond deal execution, he worked with portfolio companies on improving financial reporting, sparring with management on major investment decisions, and optimizing capital structure.
Balling has since moved to 2L Holding A/S, a Danish family office established in 1997 by Lau Kristensen and Lars-Erik Christensen that invests directly in operating companies and develops real estate. He joined as Investment Director (alongside a new associate hire, Frederik Pedersen) as part of a team expansion to support growth in the firm's long-term company investments and property development. In that role he helps drive value creation across the existing portfolio (roughly eight company investments) while accelerating the search for new opportunities. 2L Holding reported a group profit after tax of about DKK 159m in fiscal year 2023/24. Balling also controls a personal investment vehicle, Cballing Invest Holding ApS.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Established companies, not startups. Both firms he has worked at target mature, cash-generating SMEs and succession/buyout situations rather than pre-revenue seed-stage ventures — so the "seed round / angel" framing in the stub is misleading.
- Active co-ownership. Executive Capital's stated philosophy: *"We invest as active co-owners – always in close collaboration with management and co-owners,"* and *"We only invest where we can contribute actively – with experience, network and insight."*
- Meaningful ownership stakes. At 2L Holding the model is significant equity positions (often 25–75%) in companies with roughly DKK 25–250m in revenue, where management remains a co-owner.
- Situations they back: scaling companies needing capital and know-how for organic growth or acquisitions, and generational/ownership transitions (management buy-in/buy-out, succession).
- What makes them say yes: a solid, established operating business; management willing to remain invested as co-owners; and a clear way for the investor to add value through financial discipline, capital-structure optimization, and network.
Notable Investments
- Executive Capital portfolio has included Danish SMEs across steel fabrication, snack/food-pellet production, fall-protection/building-safety systems, vending solutions, and modular construction (typically ~10 active and 20+ total investments over the firm's history).
- 2L Holding A/S holds a diversified portfolio of roughly eight direct company investments plus an extensive residential and commercial real-estate development portfolio.
