Cat Mcdonald

Cat McDonald is a Partner at AlbionVC, the technology-investing arm of Albion Capital Group, which manages around £1.1bn in assets and has backed 200+ companies with over 100 profitable exits since 1996. She joined the firm in 2018 as an associate and was promoted to Partner in 2024. (Note: the title "Investment Associate / Angel Investor" in the original stub is out of date — she is now a Partner at an institutional VC firm, not an angel.)

Before moving into venture capital, McDonald worked in investment banking at Goldman Sachs across its New York and London offices — an experience she has described as formative but punishing in its hours. She holds a degree in Economics from Harvard University. Her career has spanned the worlds of markets, finance and now early-stage technology investing.

Today her work centres on the intersection of technology, markets and geopolitics, with particular emphasis on cybersecurity, digital risk, defence, energy and financial infrastructure — sectors she views as both commercially attractive and "crucial to society." She is also the author of *Venture Geopolitics*, a weekly Substack newsletter (which began as an internal AlbionVC team roundup) examining how venture funding decisions are becoming strategically consequential as capital flows shape control over critical technologies and infrastructure.

Outside of investing, McDonald is an endurance athlete and outdoors enthusiast, competing in ultramarathons and pursuing paragliding, hiking and skiing.
