Background
Chinnu Senthilkumar is a Managing Partner, General Partner and the Chief Technology Officer of Exfinity Venture Partners, a Bengaluru-based venture capital firm founded in 2014 that backs early-stage B2B, enterprise-tech and deep-tech startups. He co-founded the Exfinity fund alongside a group of veteran Indian technology leaders — including former Infosys and Wipro executives such as Mohandas Pai, Deepak Ghaisas, Girish Paranjpe and V. Balakrishnan — bringing a hands-on technical perspective to a partnership otherwise rooted in enterprise operating experience.
Before venture capital, Chinnu spent his career as a technical executive in the global semiconductor industry, holding roles at SanDisk (now part of Western Digital), Intel and Texas Instruments across both the United States and India. As Country Head of SanDisk in India, he strategized and established the company's India operations spanning R&D, sales & marketing and IT partnerships. He holds 9 US patents in semiconductors and hardware systems and, in his college years, received the National Technology Award from the President of India.
On education, Chinnu earned a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) from the University of Utah and a Bachelor of Engineering from the College of Engineering, Guindy (Anna University), Chennai. His deep chip/hardware background is central to Exfinity's identity as a technically-led investor.
His technical standing is recognized by the Government of India: he serves as an Investment Committee Member for the DLI (Design Linked Incentive) Scheme, a component of India's ~$10 billion Production Linked Incentive (PLI) semiconductor initiative. Crunchbase also lists him as CTO at Reservoir Investment Managers.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests at the early stage (seed / Pre-Series A / Series A) in B2B and deep-tech companies, with typical initial checks in the ~$500K–$4M range and reserves for follow-on.
- Core thesis, in the firm's words: backing "visionary founders building global B2B technology from India for the World" through deep-tech and enterprise innovation.
- Sector conviction in hard, IP-heavy technology: AI chip design/semiconductors, autonomous robotics/physical AI, enterprise & cloud SaaS, computer vision, cybersecurity, and EV/mobility — reflecting Chinnu's own semiconductor and hardware roots.
- With Fund IV, the mandate broadens to frontier categories: photonics, quantum computing, advanced compute, hydrogen/energy systems, life sciences, climate tech and mobility.
- Favors the cross-border play — Indian technical talent building for global (especially US and Singapore) markets; Fund IV uses a dual India–Singapore structure to let domestic and international LPs participate.
- As a technical partner and CTO, he screens hard on engineering depth, defensibility and IP — a natural fit for founders with genuine technology moats rather than purely go-to-market plays.
