Background
Chng Sok Hui is the Group Chief Financial Officer of DBS, Southeast Asia's largest bank, and a member of the DBS Group Management Committee. She joined DBS in 1983 and has spent her entire career at the bank. Before being appointed CFO in October 2008, she served for about six years as Managing Director and Head of Risk Management for DBS Group, a discipline that has shaped her reputation in the industry. She holds a Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours) from the National University of Singapore and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), a Certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM), an IBF Distinguished Fellow, and a Fellow Chartered Accountant of Singapore.
Beyond her executive role, she has held an extensive slate of board and public-service appointments. She currently sits on the NTU Board of Trustees (chairing its Audit and Risk Committee) and on the board of Changi Airport Group (chairing its Audit Committee), and is a member of the CareShield Life Council and the International Women's Forum (Singapore). She previously served roughly six years each on the boards of DBS Bank India Limited, the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore, the Housing & Development Board, and the Accounting Standards Council, and around a decade on the board of Singapore Exchange Limited (where she chaired the Risk Management Committee) as well as in a supervisory role at DBS Bank (China) Limited. She has also served on the board of the Bank of the Philippine Islands.
Her work has been widely recognized: "Risk Manager of the Year" from AsiaRisk (2002) and The Asian Banker (2012); "Accountant of the Year" at the inaugural Singapore Accountancy Awards (2014); "Best CFO" at the Singapore Corporate Awards (2013 and again in 2025, big-cap category); and "Best CFO in Singapore" at FinanceAsia's awards (2023).
Investment Thesis & Focus
- No angel/venture investment thesis could be verified. As DBS Group CFO, her professional remit is corporate finance, capital management, financial reporting, and enterprise risk — not third-party startup investing.
- Her public commentary centers on bank financial performance, capital strength, risk management, and the role of data analytics in banking, rather than on startup theses, check sizes, or portfolio strategy.
- If the goal is to engage DBS on actual startup/venture activity, the relevant channels are DBS's corporate venture and innovation arms (e.g., DBS's innovation/digital initiatives), not this individual's personal investing — none is documented.
Notable Investments
- None found. No personal angel deals, seed investments, or startup portfolio could be attributed to Chng Sok Hui in any public source. Treat any such claim in the source record as unverified.
