Background
Chong Sun is a Partner at Ceyuan Ventures, a Beijing-based early-stage venture capital firm founded in 2005 by Bo Feng that backs information-technology and emerging growth companies. He joined the firm in June 2012 and has since worked alongside the firm's other senior partners, including founder Bo Feng, managing partner Yuan Ye, and partner Wen Xin.
He came to venture capital after a finance-and-engineering career. Sun is originally from Heilongjiang Province and completed his undergraduate studies at Tsinghua University before earning a Master of Science (MSc) in Industrial Engineering & Operations Research (IEOR) from Columbia University in New York (2007–2008). Aggregator profiles list his earlier professional roles at Ericsson and in the Investment Banking Division of China International Capital Corporation (CICC), followed by a position as a senior project manager at Haitong Securities (joined May 2009) and an investment role at Legend Capital / Lenovo Ventures (联想投资, joined June 2010) immediately before moving to Ceyuan.
In addition to his partner role, Sun is the legal representative and an executive partner of Chengyuan Investment Management (嘉兴晨源投资管理有限公司), a Ceyuan-affiliated fund-management entity established in October 2015, which manages several RMB-denominated funds.
His stated areas of interest span information technology, software, internet and mobile internet, healthcare, entertainment and content, e-commerce, hardware, fintech/payments, high-tech, travel and hospitality, and education — reflecting the broad early-stage IT mandate of Ceyuan.
