Background

Chris Burry is a serial entrepreneur with more than 30 years in the technology industry, having played a role in founding roughly eight companies and worked in more than 30 countries. He earned an undergraduate degree in Political Science (with honors) from Swarthmore College. Early in his career he worked as a senior technology consultant at EDS and as a senior executive at Andersen Consulting, and he wrote a column on operating systems and infrastructure for ComputerWorld and advised IDC's research division on cloud computing.

His best-known operating role was as a founding member of Avanade, the joint venture launched in 2000 between Microsoft and Andersen Consulting (now Accenture). At Avanade he served as Global Practice Director for Infrastructure and Security and as a Technology Fellow. The company he helped build has since grown to tens of thousands of employees and billions of dollars in annual revenue across dozens of countries.

Since 2010, Burry has focused on "bringing the lessons of Silicon Valley to entrepreneurs around the world" as Co-Founder and Co-CEO of the US Market Access Center (US MAC), a Silicon Valley / Menlo Park–based accelerator that helps non-US technology companies "Go Global" and enter the US market. Through US MAC he has trained and mentored more than 1,000 startups from 25+ countries, whose alumni have collectively raised over $1.4B in capital. He is also Co-Founder of the A3 Global Collider.

Alongside his accelerator work, Burry is an Industry Fellow and Adjunct Faculty at UC Berkeley's Sutardja Center for Entrepreneurship & Technology, has served as faculty at the European Innovation Academy, and is a frequent conference speaker on entrepreneurship, ecosystem-building, and startup internationalization. He personally leads US MAC's Angel Investor Training program, delivered alongside experienced angels from established Silicon Valley angel networks.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests as an angel at the seed / angel-round stage, putting personal capital into early-stage technology companies in exchange for equity.
  • Sector interest centers on software and technology infrastructure — e.g., his known deal (Perfect Dashboard) targets the web-hosting/website-management space.
  • Strong bias toward internationally-founded startups aiming to scale into the US market, reflecting the core mission of US MAC: giving international tech companies "fast and successful access to the US market."
  • Approaches investing with an operator/mentor lens — his Angel Investor Training curriculum emphasizes portfolio strategy, valuation, and deal structuring, signaling a disciplined, portfolio-oriented approach rather than one-off bets.
  • Values founders who understand globally connected ecosystems, capital-raising strategy, and customer-voice methodology — recurring themes in his talks and teaching.

Notable Investments

  • Perfect Dashboard, Inc. — Angel-round investment; a company building a marketplace for the ~$19B web-hosting industry, aiming to bring innovation to the "long tail" of website owners.
  • Beyond documented angel deals, his highest-impact "investment" of time and capital is the US MAC accelerator portfolio, whose 1,000+ alumni startups have collectively raised more than $1.4B.
