Background

Christopher Vroman is the co-founder and a Managing Member of Emmett Partners, a New York–registered venture capital firm launched in 2018 to pursue impact investments alongside philanthropic advisory work. SEC filings for Emmett Partners Impact Fund I, L.P. (filed July 2019) list Vroman, together with Johnathan Lennox, as "Managing Member of General Partner and Management Company" — the two principals behind the fund, which set out to raise up to $25 million. The fund is classified as a Venture Capital Fund and a Section 3(c)(1) pooled investment vehicle.

Vroman's career spans strategy consulting, media finance, and private equity. He spent roughly five years as a management and strategy consultant at Scient Corporation and Andersen Consulting (now Accenture), advising both venture-backed startups and large enterprises. He later served as Director of Business Development at RKO Pictures, where he built financing structures to fund film projects, before moving into private equity as an investor at two Los Angeles middle-market funds, Corridor Capital and Black Canyon Capital (the latter affiliated with Canyon Capital Advisors, a large multi-strategy asset manager).

He holds a B.S. from Clarkson University and an MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. His long association with Los Angeles institutions (RKO, Corridor, Black Canyon, and LA-based portfolio companies) is consistent with his West-Coast base, even as Emmett Partners maintains its offices in New York.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests through Emmett Partners' Impact Fund, which pairs venture-style capital with a stated mission of "improving the community and environment through impact investments and philanthropic advisory."
  • Targets seed and early-stage companies; the fund's Form D reports no minimum investment threshold, consistent with flexible early-stage check writing.
  • Sector emphasis follows measurable-impact themes: climate/environmental infrastructure (e.g., stormwater monitoring), healthcare access and digital health, and consumer health/wellness hardware.
  • Looks for ventures where commercial returns and social or environmental outcomes reinforce each other — mission-driven founders solving infrastructure, health-access, or family-health problems.

Notable Investments

  • StormSensor — Seattle climate-tech company providing IoT sensors ("Scute") and the "Terrapin" cloud platform to monitor flow and flooding in sewer/stormwater systems; Emmett Partners is listed as an investor (its recorded investment dates to around October 2020). StormSensor went on to raise a $10M Series A in December 2021 (co-led by Orbia Ventures and Buoyant Ventures).
  • Motivo Health — Atlanta-based telehealth platform connecting early-career mental-health clinicians with clinical supervisors to speed and lower the cost of licensure; aimed at expanding the supply of licensed therapists. Motivo later raised a $14M Series A (August 2022, led by Cox Enterprises).
  • Miku — Los Angeles consumer-health startup making a contact-free smart baby monitor that tracks an infant's breathing and sleep in real time via proprietary "SensorFusion" technology.
