Background

Christian Pass is a health-care finance executive with more than 30 years of experience, including 8+ years as a health-system CFO. He earned a Master of Business Administration from Pepperdine University's Graziadio Business School. Early in his career he spent over 15 years in health-care management consulting focused on revenue-cycle strategy, culminating as Chief Operating Officer of PARA Healthcare Financial Services (1999–2009), a national revenue-cycle firm.

Pass joined John Muir Health (a not-for-profit system in Contra Costa County, Northern California) in April 2009 as Vice President of Revenue Cycle. He consolidated the system's revenue cycles, centralized functions, and executed an Epic EHR implementation with a single business office. He later led Enterprise Analytics strategy and was promoted to Senior Vice President of Financial Operations before being appointed Interim CFO in January 2015 and permanent CFO in October 2015. As CFO he oversaw Finance, Treasury, Revenue Cycle, Facilities Management, corporate real estate, and Payer Strategy & Contracting, and served as executive sponsor of the system's first ERP implementation across supply chain, finance, and HR. He is noted for adopting a rolling-forecast budgeting model and, during the COVID-19 pandemic, publicly discussing how John Muir Health maintained financial stability.

In February 2023, Pass left John Muir Health to join Optum (part of UnitedHealth Group) as President, Market Performance Partnerships, leading strategy and growth consulting for health systems and payers; in his most recent Optum role he oversaw provider and "payvider" clients. He helped create John Muir Health's first market-performance partnership with Optum, which preceded his move.

In late 2025 / early 2026, Keck Medicine of USC named Pass its Chief Financial Officer, effective January 12, 2026. In this role he manages Keck Medicine's strategic financial planning, financial and governmental reporting, budgeting, funds flow, revenue cycle, accounting, and supply chain, working alongside senior executives across the health system and USC. CEO Rod Hanners cited his "more than 30 years of health care finance leadership experience with a proven history of cultivating high-performing teams and guiding organizations through critical financial and operational transformations."

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • No public angel/venture investment thesis exists. Pass is a corporate finance executive, not a private investor; no stated investment thesis, fund, or syndicate was found.
  • His professional focus is health-system financial sustainability, revenue-cycle optimization, payer strategy/contracting, analytics-driven forecasting, and ERP/EHR transformation.
  • If the underlying database intended to capture an individual who might participate in health-care startup seed rounds, that categorization is unsupported by any evidence found and should be treated as a likely mistagging.

Notable Investments

  • None found. No portfolio companies, seed deals, or personal investments could be verified from public sources. (His "notable work" is operational: he led John Muir Health's Optum market-performance partnership, Epic and ERP implementations, and rolling-forecast budgeting — none of which are financial investments in startups.)
