Background

Christoffer Callans is a Stockholm-based private equity investor with more than seventeen years in the financial industry. He began his career in London at Stella Advisors, a TMT-focused investment banking boutique, where he spent roughly four years working on Nordic M&A transactions in the technology, media and telecom sector.

In 2013 he joined Scope, a Stockholm-based, growth-focused private equity firm that takes an active-ownership, "arts and crafts" approach to building consumer brand companies (typical hold of four to seven years). Callans spent about eight years there as an Investment Manager, working across a portfolio of Scandinavian consumer and retail brands. The stub contact details (scope.se email and the +46 8 5060 6200 Stockholm switchboard) correspond to this role.

He has since moved to Verso Capital (formerly VersoVentures), a Nordic private equity firm founded in 2012 and headquartered in Helsinki with offices in Stockholm and Frankfurt/Munich, where he is an Investment Director based in Stockholm. Verso focuses on buy-outs and carve-outs of European B2B companies (revenue €10–100m, positive EBITDA), with a thesis oriented around sustainability, energy efficiency and operational value creation.

On the education side, Callans holds an M.Sc. in Investment Management from Cass Business School (City, University of London) and a B.Sc. in Business and Economics from Uppsala University. He has also completed executive studies in Mergers & Acquisitions at Harvard University and in Private Equity at London Business School.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Institutional private equity rather than angel/seed investing — his work is growth equity and control buy-outs, not early-stage cheques.
  • At Scope: building consumer brands with strong physical and digital presence, via omni-channel development, internationalization, governance and executive recruitment, over a 4–7 year horizon.
  • At Verso: European B2B companies "targeting a leading position or disrupting the market equilibrium," with €10–100m revenue, positive EBITDA, a unique value proposition and room for sustainable growth; Verso typically becomes the largest shareholder and partners closely with management.
  • Sector lean toward TMT/tech-enabled businesses (rooted in his early M&A career) and, at Verso, sustainability and energy-efficiency themes.
  • Nordic-first, Europe-wide geography.
