Background
Christopher Foll is a Senior Managing Director at Gulf Capital, the Abu Dhabi–based alternative investment firm he joined in 2010 as Chief Financial Officer. He currently heads the firm's Growth Equity business, overseeing portfolio management and the investment team, and has sat on Gulf Capital's Private Debt Investment Committee across its credit funds since their inception. Gulf Capital, founded in 2006, manages over US$3 billion in assets across Private Equity, Private Debt and Real Estate, and is backed by more than 250 shareholders including sovereign wealth funds, global financial institutions and regional family groups. It was named Private Equity Firm of the Year – MENA at the 2022 PEI Awards.
Foll brings more than 30 years of senior management experience spanning agriculture, building materials, mining and telecommunications, with operating roles across Southern Africa, Australia, India, Vietnam, Indonesia and Hong Kong. Before Gulf Capital he was CFO of the New York– and Hong Kong–listed Hutchison Telecommunications International, where he managed spin-offs and the restructuring of emerging-market operations. Earlier in the Hutchison group he served as CFO and COO of Hutchison Essar in Mumbai — where he says revenues grew from roughly US$200 million to US$3 billion during his six-year tenure — and as COO of Hutchison Telecom Vietnam.
In Australia, Foll was Chief Financial Officer and subsequently Chief Executive Officer of QNI Ltd, a listed specialist nickel and cobalt producer. This blend of operating leadership (CFO/CEO/COO roles) and public-company financial discipline informs his approach at Gulf Capital, where the emphasis is on backing and building profitable, scalable businesses rather than early-stage ventures.
Foll holds a B.Compt from the University of South Africa and is a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (formerly the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and New Zealand).
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests through Gulf Capital's Growth Equity strategy — growth capital and control buy-outs in established, cash-generative businesses, complemented by the firm's Private Debt and Real Estate platforms.
- Targets "defensive and fast-growing sectors" across the Gulf — Gulf Capital has explicitly built "a portfolio of defensive investments in resilient and fast growing sectors such as food and beverage, healthcare, education, power, water and FMCG."
- Increasingly weighted toward technology, fintech, healthcare and business services, alongside consumer and sustainability themes.
- Institutional check sizes, not seed rounds: deals range from significant minority growth stakes to 100% acquisitions of regional market leaders.
- Emphasis on profitability, market leadership and regional consolidation — buying category leaders (e.g., the largest F&B distributor in a market) and scaling them across the GCC.
Notable Investments
- Multibrands — acquired 100% in 2016; one of the largest food & beverage distributors in the Gulf, bought to capture rising consumption in Saudi Arabia (control buy-out).
- Santechture — healthcare enterprise-systems company; cited as Gulf Capital's most recent disclosed investment (June 2025).
- Global Premier Fertility — healthcare / practice-management (fertility) platform in the growth-equity portfolio.
- Hahn & Hahn — legal-services business within the portfolio.
- Broader portfolio (~33 companies as of 2026) concentrated in healthcare, fintech, consumer, business services and sustainability across the GCC.
