Christopher Hale

Chris Hale is Chair Emeritus and a Senior Consultant at Travers Smith LLP, a London-headquartered corporate law firm. He joined the firm in 1983, was made a partner in 1987, and in 1996 founded its Private Equity & Financial Sponsors Group, which became one of the firm's flagship practices. He went on to serve as Head of Corporate from 2003 to 2013 and as the firm's Senior Partner from 2013 to 2019, after which he took on the Chair Emeritus and consultant role he holds today.

He was educated at the University of Cambridge, where he read History (MA) and Law (LLM). Across his career his practice has concentrated on UK and international M&A and buyout work, acting for institutional investors, management teams, private equity–backed businesses and large private companies on investments, divestments and other corporate matters. He is described by the firm and by clients as a thorough and demanding negotiator ("A very thorough, thoughtful and tough negotiator," Chambers and Partners, 2018).

Hale is widely ranked in the legal directories: Chambers Global and The Legal 500 list him among the world's leading private equity lawyers, and Chambers and Partners rates him an "Eminent Practitioner" for UK Corporate M&A and Private Equity. He is also active in legal education and thought leadership — he lectures at the University of Oxford (and is associated with its Law and Finance research programme), sits on the University of Cambridge Master of Corporate Law (MCL) Practitioners Advisory Board, and edits and contributes to a leading practitioner text on private equity.

Importantly, the KNOWN STUB DATA classified Hale as an "Angel Investor" investing at "Seed Round." No public source supports this. Hale is a private equity and M&A lawyer, not a startup angel investor; the label appears to be an aggregator misclassification.
