Background

Cindy Munn is a certified public accountant with more than 20 years of private-equity fund administration, partnership accounting, and tax experience. She earned her B.S. from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Her career in private equity began at HM Capital (formerly Hicks, Muse, Tate & Furst), where over roughly nine years she oversaw GAAP and tax reporting for funds totaling more than $12 billion in assets under management.

She subsequently left HM Capital to build and lead JP Morgan's private-equity fund-services group in Dallas as a Vice President, providing fund-administration services to HM Capital and other private-equity firms. She later held director-level accounting and fund-administration roles, including work associated with CM Capital and Standish Management.

Immediately before joining STG, Cindy served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer of Illumina Ventures, where she was responsible for all reporting, compliance, and administrative functions of the venture firm. She joined STG (Symphony Technology Group) in mid-2019.

At STG she is listed as Principal, Finance (the underlying stub recorded "Vice President, Finance," suggesting a promotion or evolving title). In this role she leads the firm's accounting, human-resources, and financial-planning functions rather than sourcing or deciding on investments. STG Partners, headquartered in Menlo Park, is a private-equity firm founded in 2002 (as Symphony Technology Group) by Romesh Wadhwani, William Chisholm, and Bryan Taylor, reorganized as STG Partners in 2017, and managing approximately $12 billion across ~19 investment vehicles as of March 2025.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Cindy Munn is an operational/finance leader, not an investment principal — she does not personally make angel or seed investments. Founders seeking capital would engage STG's deal team, not her.
  • STG's (firm-level) thesis: "fueling innovative software, data, and analytics market leaders in the mid-market," pairing capital with transformation/operational expertise.
  • Stage/structure: Majority and control investments (buyouts and carve-outs), not seed or angel rounds.
  • What STG brings beyond capital: operational transformation support to help portfolio companies improve business performance, retain/attract talent, and deliver more client value.

Notable Investments

  • McAfee Enterprise — acquired for ~$4 billion (March 2021); enterprise cybersecurity carve-out.
  • RSA Security — acquired from Dell Technologies for ~$2.075 billion (February 2020); cybersecurity.
  • SAI360 — governance, risk, and compliance software (acquisition completed by STG).
  • CAI Software — majority investment; ERP software for manufacturers and food & beverage.
  • Cadmium (event technology) and CommPartners / Warpwire — SaaS for learning management, virtual events, and educational video.
  • STG's overall portfolio has spanned more than 35 global companies in software, data, and analytics.
