Background

Colin Campbell is a Partner at Zouk Capital LLP, a London-based sustainability-focused investment firm, which he joined in 2007 and where he founded and leads the Infrastructure team. He brings more than 25 years of experience in the energy sector, with a track record spanning executive management, company turnarounds, building new projects and companies, energy trading, and corporate and project finance. He is a Chartered Accountant (FCA) and holds a BSc in Chemical and Process Engineering.

Before Zouk, Colin held senior operating and finance roles across the power sector. He served as CEO of Killingholme Power, where he restructured a 680MW gas plant into a merchant operation — a turnaround credited with more than trebling its value for lenders. Earlier he was Vice President of Corporate M&A at TXU Europe, handling power and gas transactions, and a Project Finance Manager at Mitsui Babcock (now Doosan Babcock). He also worked with UK financial institutions on resolving distressed energy-sector debt.

At Zouk, Colin led all investments and sales in the firm's successful first infrastructure fund, zSol (zouk Solar Opportunities), which focused on solar assets and raised €52M. In the firm's later funds he has led investments across waste, EV charging, wind, and solar. He has been central to Zouk's role as manager of the UK Treasury's £400M Charging Infrastructure Investment Fund (CIIF), which pairs private capital with matched UK Government funding to accelerate the country's EV charging build-out.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests in scaling clean-energy and sustainable infrastructure businesses rather than early-stage tech — EV charging, solar, wind, and waste
  • Backs asset-heavy, decarbonisation-driven companies where operational and project-finance expertise adds value to growth and scaling
  • Uses larger, infrastructure-sized cheques (e.g. £13M and ~$80M rounds into EO Charging; £12M into InstaVolt) rather than seed tickets
  • Deploys the £400M UK Charging Infrastructure Investment Fund (CIIF), matching private capital with UK Government commitments to build national EV charging networks
  • Looks for companies that can become national or European infrastructure platforms — e.g. rapid-charging networks, on-street residential charging, and fleet charging

Notable Investments

  • InstaVolt — UK rapid EV charging network; CIIF's first investment (2019), £12M package; Zouk exited in full via sale to EQT Infrastructure (March 2022)
  • EO Charging — UK EV fleet charging manufacturer; £13M investment (2023) and part of a ~$80M equity round alongside Vortex Energy; Zouk had backed EO since 2018
  • Liberty Charge — On-street residential EV charging JV between Liberty Global and Zouk; CIIF's second investment (announced May 2020)
  • Be Power — Italian electric-mobility / EV charging company; Zouk investment
  • zSol (zouk Solar Opportunities) — Zouk's first infrastructure fund, focused on solar assets; raised €52M; Colin led all investments and sales
  • Portfolio also spans waste, wind, and solar assets across Zouk's infrastructure funds
