Background
Craig A. Wolfanger is Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking at First National Bank. He moved into that role after F.N.B. Corporation announced in April 2025 that it had agreed to acquire Raptor Partners LLC, the Pittsburgh-based independent investment banking firm he founded and led.
Wolfanger founded Raptor Partners in 2005. Raptor focused on mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, valuation advisory, and private capital raising for public and private companies. F.N.B. said Raptor had completed hundreds of transactions with aggregate value of nearly $40 billion; Smart Business Dealmakers describes Wolfanger as having completed more than 400 global transactions exceeding $40 billion.
Before founding Raptor, Wolfanger was Senior Managing Director and Head of Investment Banking at Parker/Hunter Incorporated. Earlier, he was a partner at Alex. Brown & Sons, where he managed the New York investment banking practice, and began his career as an investment banker with Kidder, Peabody & Co.
He has a B.A. from Valparaiso University and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He also served as a director of Spartech Corporation, where SEC filings identify him as a board member and audit committee member, and Smart Business Dealmakers notes that he served on the Board of Directors of the Mid-Atlantic Securities Association and as an Allied Member of the New York Stock Exchange.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- The available sources describe Wolfanger primarily as an investment banker and corporate finance advisor, not as a seed-stage angel investor. I did not find verified evidence of a personal angel-investment portfolio or standard seed check size.
- Raptor’s stated advisory focus is “thoughtful, insightful and actionable financial advisory services” for U.S. and international public and private companies.
- F.N.B. positioned the Raptor acquisition as a way to advise “middle market and large corporate clients” across their business life cycle.
- Core services include mergers and acquisitions advisory, corporate finance advisory, valuation advisory, and private capital raising.
- Sector focus is strongest in specialty manufacturing, engineered products, healthcare, life sciences and safety, software and technology, business services, and consumer products and services.
- Founder fit appears strongest where the company is preparing for a sale, acquisition, recapitalization, valuation, or private capital raise rather than seeking an early seed check.
