Background

Dag Broman is a co-founding Partner of Alder, a Stockholm-based Nordic investment firm founded in 2008 that acquires and grows technology companies enabling more resource-efficient industrial systems in support of climate and environmental goals. He is one of the firm's founding partners alongside Henrik Blomé, Henrik Flygar, and Jonas Frick, working today within a partner group that also includes Arash Raisse.

Before his investing career, Broman came from academia and applied environmental science. He was a Professor and served as Head/Director of the Department of Applied Environmental Science (ITM) at Stockholm University — described as one of the Nordic region's major research institutions for applied environmental science. His scholarly work focused on environmental chemistry, food-chain biomagnification, and the Baltic Sea; bibliometric databases credit him with dozens of published papers and several thousand citations. He holds an M.Sc. and a PhD in Environmental Science from Stockholm University.

At Alder, Broman pairs this deep environmental-science expertise with private-equity value creation. He has served as the partner in charge of portfolio companies including Safe Monitoring Group, Centriair, and Insort, and was previously responsible for now-divested holdings such as Dinair, Gasmet, and Aidon. His background makes him a natural fit for Alder's thesis of investing where industrial performance and environmental impact intersect.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests through Alder in unlisted Nordic environmental/climate-technology companies, targeting businesses that make industrial systems more resource-efficient and advance EU climate and environmental objectives.
  • Takes majority ownership / control positions, adding not just capital but management and corporate-governance expertise to build "strong Nordic companies."
  • Focuses on the lower mid-market: established companies with proven business models, profitable growth, and positive cash flow (roughly EUR 10–75m turnover) — a growth/buyout mandate rather than early-stage venture.
  • Investment decisions are explicitly guided by the EU Green Deal framework, including the EU Taxonomy and SFDR, reflecting Alder's positioning as a sustainability-driven investor.
  • Broman personally gravitates toward companies in emissions/environmental monitoring, air-cleaning, and clean industrial technology, consistent with his applied-environmental-science background.
