Background
Dale Holladay is the Chief Financial Officer of U.S. Venture Partners (USVP), one of Silicon Valley's longest-running venture capital firms, founded in 1981 and headquartered in Menlo Park, California. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and leads the firm's finance function rather than serving as an investing (deal-leading) partner. It is worth noting that the stub description of Holladay as an "Angel Investor" focused on "Seed Rounds" does not match the public record — he is USVP's CFO.
Holladay joined USVP in 2001 as Controller and was later promoted to CFO, succeeding Mike Maher, who had held the role for more than 25 years. In his own firm bio, he notes that he "worked closely with our investment team, operations personnel, portfolio companies, and limited partners" over his years at the firm, which enabled a seamless transition into the CFO seat. He attended Brigham Young University.
As CFO, Holladay is responsible for all of USVP's financial reporting, income tax and regulatory compliance matters, and for working alongside portfolio company personnel and their legal counsel on financing (round-closing) matters. His role is central to fund operations and limited-partner relations rather than to sourcing or leading new investments.
USVP has invested more than $4.3 billion since inception, backing 500+ companies and producing dozens of IPOs across four decades. In December 2022, the firm announced a $400M early-stage fund to continue leading Series A and B rounds in its four core sectors.
Investment Thesis & Focus
*(Firm-level thesis; Holladay executes finance/operations rather than setting investment strategy.)*
- USVP's stated strategy is to be the lead Series A or B investor in U.S.- or Israel-based companies across four core sectors: cybersecurity, enterprise software, consumer, and healthcare.
- Focus on early-stage, transformational startups — the firm describes its mission as backing companies that "transform cybersecurity, enterprise software, consumer and healthcare."
- Typical initial checks in the ~$5M–$10M range, with capacity to follow on through later rounds.
- Long track record of taking companies to IPO/M&A — reportedly 90+ IPOs from 500+ investments over 40+ years.
