Damian Szary

Damian A. Szary is a founding principal of Redgate, which he co-founded in 2010 in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis with the aim of reshaping how urban communities are imagined, built, and lived in. He serves as Managing Director of Redgate Capital Partners — the firm's multifamily investment and development platform — and sits on Redgate's Investment Committee, helping steer the firm's overall investment activity. He has more than 20 years of experience in real estate development and acquisitions, concentrated in the multifamily sector, and has been involved in the planning and development of over 5,000 housing units ranging from small-scale adaptive-reuse condominium projects to luxury high-rise apartment communities.

Before founding Redgate, Szary was an executive at Archstone, one of the nation's largest apartment owners and developers, serving as Senior Development Officer in its Boston office. There he was responsible for the origination, underwriting, and execution of multifamily projects across the Boston and New York metro areas, including work associated with major developments such as NorthPoint in Cambridge and Avenir in Boston. He began his career on the brokerage side — as a development intern / commercial broker at Spaulding & Slye — before transitioning into development. He has credited commercial broker Deb Gould (now Executive Managing Director at Newmark) as a formative mentor who taught him deal-making frameworks and off-market sourcing.

Szary holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Colgate University and a Master of Science in Real Estate Development from Columbia University. He advises younger professionals to invest early in real estate finance and advanced modeling skills, saying that doing so "will serve you more than you may realize."
