Background
Dana Bailey Levering is the Vice President of Finance and Chief Compliance Officer at New Capital Partners, a Birmingham, Alabama-based private equity firm founded in 2001. She joined NCP in 2010, bringing roughly 20 years of operational accounting experience. In her VP of Finance role she manages the firm's operational accounting function, and as Chief Compliance Officer she administers the firm's compliance program in its capacity as a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA).
Before NCP, Levering built a long career in accounting and financial operations. She began as an in-charge auditor at Price Waterhouse, then served as Controller of a home-infusion therapy company and Director of Financial Accounting for a home health company. She subsequently spent 13 years on the senior management team of Radiant Research as Corporate Controller, where she led an accounting department of about fifteen people while Radiant grew into what was described as the largest clinical-trials site management organization (SMO) in the country.
Levering is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and earned a BS in Accounting from the Culverhouse School of Accountancy at the University of Alabama.
Because her role is finance and compliance rather than sourcing or leading deals, founders should understand that she is not the person who writes checks or makes investment decisions at NCP — those decisions sit with the firm's investment partners.
Investment Thesis & Focus
*(This describes New Capital Partners' firm-level strategy, since Dana Levering is a finance/compliance executive rather than an investing partner.)*
- Stage & structure: Lower/middle-market private equity — growth capital, buyouts, recapitalizations, mergers/acquisitions, and add-on acquisitions. This is not seed or angel investing.
- Thesis-driven approach: NCP describes itself as "a thesis-driven firm of entrepreneurs and former operators," focused on founder-owned, lower-middle-market companies where it can partner with management.
- Sectors: Healthcare technology & services, financial technology & services, and business technology & services.
- What makes them engage: Partnership with management teams to build "Great Companies," with an emphasis on delivering strong service to each portfolio company's customers.
- Scale: The firm has reported managing roughly $225 million across its private equity and economic-development funds, and has made 90+ investments over its history.
