Background

Dan Ahn is the co-founder and Managing Partner of Clearvision Ventures, an evergreen venture capital fund he founded to back "world-changing entrepreneurs" at the intersection of technology, sustainability, and infrastructure. He has more than 20 years of experience as a venture capitalist in Silicon Valley and was an early founding investor in companies such as ChargePoint, AutoGrid, and Analogix — notably backing ChargePoint's EV-charging vision before electric vehicles reached mainstream adoption.

Before launching Clearvision, Ahn was a Managing Director at Voyager Capital, where he led the firm's Silicon Valley investment activity, including deals such as ChargePoint and AutoGrid. Earlier in his career he was a Managing Director at Woodside Fund and worked with the Foster Management Company. He is also an operator: he co-founded and led EndPoint Technologies, a startup that was acquired by Applied Materials. He has additionally been associated with Envision Ventures.

Ahn earned an AB from Harvard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Beyond investing, he serves on company boards (including Persefoni) and plays violin with Symphony Parnassus in San Francisco.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests in "category leaders at the intersection of technology, sustainability, and infrastructure," with a current emphasis on disruptions in energy and infrastructure sustainability.
  • Sector concentration in energy, climate/cleantech, industrial technology, industrial cybersecurity, enterprise software, AI/ML, and IoT.
  • Stage flexibility from early stage through growth; firm-level checks generally run ~$1M to $25M per company.
  • Known as a contrarian, pattern-recognition investor who aims to identify dominant companies before markets recognize their potential — the ChargePoint bet is the emblematic example, described as seeing "into the future of EVs that most investors on Sand Hill Road failed to see."
  • Founder quality is central to his decision-making; his stated purpose in founding Clearvision was to "support entrepreneurs in changing the world."
