Daniel Geballe

Dan Geballe is a Managing Director in the California office of SJF Ventures, an impact-focused venture capital firm that backs high-growth companies creating positive social and environmental outcomes. He was promoted to Managing Director around 2021, having previously served as a Partner. At SJF he leads and sits on the boards of a number of the firm's portfolio companies, focusing on businesses that pair strong financial returns with measurable impact across clean energy, healthcare, education, workforce, and enterprise software.

Before SJF, Geballe held roles at DBL Investors (as a summer associate — one of the pioneering "double bottom line" impact funds), the Corporation for Enterprise Development (a nonprofit focused on economic opportunity), and Fisher Investments. This blend of impact-investing and traditional asset-management experience underpins his current focus.

He holds a Bachelor's degree in anthropology and a Master's in environmental management from Yale University, and an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Beyond investing, Geballe is deeply engaged in civic and philanthropic governance. In April 2025 he joined the board of directors of Levi Strauss & Co., where he had previously served with CEO Michelle Gass on the board of the Levi Strauss Foundation. He also serves on the Koshland Committee of the San Francisco Foundation and on the advisory board of the Butler Koshland Fellowships — reflecting long-standing family ties to Bay Area philanthropy and the Levi Strauss legacy.
