Background
Daniel Harel is the co-founder, Managing Partner and CEO of BlueRed Partners, a Singapore-based venture capital fund he helped establish in 2017. The fund's premise is to act as a bridge between innovative Israeli technology companies and Asian capital and markets — sourcing disruptive early- and growth-stage Israeli startups and helping them scale across Asia. BlueRed reports having raised a ~$75M fund (BlueRed Capital) that closed around 2019.
Before venture capital, Harel spent roughly 25 years in Asia in wealth and capital markets, holding senior positions at Tier-1 financial institutions including PaineWebber, Smith Barney and UBS — where his background is associated with wealth management and ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) client coverage. Across those roles he built a reputation as a link between foreign companies and leading Asian investors, the relationship network that underpins BlueRed's cross-border model. He is also associated with prior/related ventures including D.H. Capital and Astrid Capital Management.
Beyond the fund, Harel has held operating and board-level roles connected to portfolio companies, notably serving as a board member at Unbound Security (formerly Unbound Tech), an Israeli cryptographic-security company that was acquired by Coinbase in 2021, and he is associated with enterprise-storage company StorONE. His profile is consistently described as combining deep Asian investor relationships with hands-on involvement in the Israeli tech ecosystem.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Core thesis: Back "disruptive, early and growth-stage Israeli technology companies" whose solutions map to major Asian market needs and trends — then use BlueRed's Asian network to help them expand into the region.
- Stage: Ranges from seed/angel through growth, but the firm states its focus is on companies "showing significant traction and ready to scale," typically at mature Series A or early Series B.
- Check size: Roughly $100K to $5.0M per deal, with a typical sweet spot around $1.5M.
- Sectors: Cybersecurity, FinTech, MedTech/digital health, AI/ML, food-tech, e-commerce and retail, logistics and mobility.
- What makes them say yes: Demonstrated traction and readiness to scale into Asia, and a clear fit for BlueRed's value-add — introductions to Asian strategic partners, distribution and investors rather than capital alone.
