Background

Daniel ("Dan") Neuwirth co-founded Quad Partners in 2000 alongside Lincoln Frank, and serves as a Managing Partner of the firm. Quad is a New York–based, lower-middle-market private equity firm built around a single specialization — the education industry — and over roughly 25 years it has backed 100+ portfolio companies and add-on acquisitions across six funds, raising approximately $1.2 billion since inception. Neuwirth has led investments throughout the education portfolio and has historically held board seats at companies including Cayuse, Rubicon, Ruffalo Noel Levitz, and Watermark.

Before founding Quad, Neuwirth worked in investment banking and principal investing. He spent time at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette (DLJ) and at Goldman, Sachs & Co., experience that informs Quad's combination of financial discipline and hands-on operating engagement with founder- and owner-operated education companies.

He holds an M.B.A. from the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College and a B.A. from Williams College.

Note: Some contact databases label Neuwirth as an "angel investor" doing "seed" deals; primary sources do not support this. Quad is an institutional private equity firm writing control and growth equity checks into established education businesses, and Neuwirth's role is that of a firm co-founder/general partner rather than an individual angel.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Single-sector specialist: Quad invests exclusively in education and workforce development — "Pre-K through Career Development and everything in between" — spanning Pre-K, K-12, Higher Ed & Skills Training, and Talent & Career Development.
  • Stage & structure: Lower middle-market private equity — buyouts (LBO/MBO/MBI), growth capital, recapitalizations, divestitures, secondary buyouts, and stake purchases; not an early-stage/seed investor.
  • Check size: Roughly $5M–$40M of equity per situation, with capacity for larger deals through limited-partner co-investment.
  • Company profile they say yes to: Owner-operated, high-quality, growth-oriented education businesses — including edtech, tech-enabled services, and site-based models — where Quad believes its industry knowledge and operating expertise can accelerate organic growth and add-on M&A.
  • Stated approach: The firm describes itself as a collaborative, reliable partner "deeply committed to employing our experience, energy, and talent to empower the founders, CEOs, and teams with whom we partner."
