Background
Daniel Viana is a Portugal-based private equity investor with roughly two decades of transaction and operational experience. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School (2005–2007) and an undergraduate degree in economics/management from Católica Lisbon School of Business (Universidade Católica Portuguesa). His early career included responsibility for the turnaround of a Portuguese SME, giving him hands-on operational grounding before he moved into finance.
Before private equity, Viana worked in investment banking, including a role at UBS Investment Bank in New York, and gained buyout experience as a Director at Explorer Investments, a Portuguese private equity firm focused on domestic buyouts. He has also been associated with Sintimex earlier in his career.
In 2012 Viana became a Partner at Oxy Capital, a Lisbon-based private equity and asset-management firm (founded 2011–2012) that has deployed over €1 billion across traditional private equity, distressed debt, mezzanine, real estate, and listed securities. At Oxy he focused on sourcing and executing investments for the firm's Fund II, a mezzanine/private-equity vehicle whose limited partners included the European Investment Fund. The firm targets buyouts (LBO/MBO/MBI), growth capital, recapitalizations, and special situations in South European SMEs.
More recently, Viana co-founded Vibe Capital Partners, an Iberian private equity firm established around 2023 and regulated by Portugal's CMVM (based in Algés, near Lisbon). Vibe positions itself around "superior returns with lasting impact," leaning on its partners' deep cross-cycle transaction experience combined with hands-on operational and strategic expertise. Note that his oxycapital.com email in the stub data may be legacy given his move to Vibe.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests in established, healthy small-to-mid-sized companies — not early-stage startups — through majority or minority stakes, equity raises, and mezzanine debt
- Deploys capital for growth, restructuring, shareholder liquidity, and complex/special situations, reflecting Oxy's stated strategy of backing South European SMEs "in need of funding for growth, restructuring… and other complex situations"
- Sector-agnostic in practice: Oxy's portfolio spans industrials, manufacturing, energy/clean tech, IT/SaaS, forestry, and business/commercial services
- Iberian focus, primarily Portugal, with Oxy historically extending into Italy (offices in Lisbon and Milan)
- Emphasis on operational value creation — Vibe stresses "hands-on operational and strategic expertise… across cycles and sectors," consistent with Viana's turnaround roots
Notable Investments
- Eurogalva — galvanizing/industrials company; Oxy's most recent investment (Dec 2025)
- Lúcios — engineering/construction group; Oxy exited in April 2026
- Remo Sustainable Mobility — automotive/sustainable-mobility company in the portfolio
- ListKit — business/productivity software company in the portfolio
