David T. Abbott is a Cleveland civic leader, lawyer, and former journalist. He began his career as a reporter for *The Plain Dealer*, then spent roughly a decade in Cuyahoga County government, serving more than eight years as County Administrator, where he helped drive the Gateway project (home to the Cleveland Guardians' and Cavaliers' venues). He went on to lead a string of the region's marquee civic institutions: Executive Director of the Cleveland Bicentennial Commission (1993–1997, during which the Great Lakes Science Center opened), Executive Director/Director of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & Museum, and President of University Circle Inc.

In January 2003 he became Executive Director (later President) of The George Gund Foundation, succeeding David Bergholz. He led the Foundation — a private institution established in 1952 to improve human well-being and to make Cleveland more livable, competitive, sustainable, and just — for roughly 19 years, retiring at the end of 2021. He was succeeded by Anthony Richardson. After retiring, Abbott became the inaugural Distinguished Jurist in Residence at Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
