Background
David Cogut is Co-Managing Partner at Pegasus Capital Advisors, L.P., a private equity and impact investment firm founded in 1996 by his colleague (and the firm's Founder, Chairman & CEO) Craig Cogut. In his role, David helps lead the firm's strategic initiatives and oversees day-to-day operations, and he sits on the firm's management committee, investment committee, and valuation committee. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Brown University (2007–2011).
Before joining Pegasus, David worked as an investment banker at Moelis & Company, where he focused on mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, and financing transactions across a range of sectors. His career history also includes a role associated with LWPartners prior to his current tenure at Pegasus.
At Pegasus, David has been instrumental in overseeing two of the firm's flagship climate vehicles: the Sub-National Climate Fund (SCF) and the Global Fund for Coral Reefs (GFCR). He helps coordinate the firm's strategic relationships with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) — Pegasus was the first U.S. private equity firm to obtain GCF accreditation — as well as the UNDP, development finance institutions (DFIs), and corporate partners, particularly in the hospitality sector. He currently oversees several portfolio companies, and has been involved in a number of the firm's past investments.
Pegasus Capital Advisors integrates environmental and social factors directly into its investment process. The firm has made roughly 70–90+ investments since inception, manages over $1.8 billion in assets, and has invested over $2.6 billion across five private equity funds, with a stated mission to back solutions that promote food and water security, energy independence, health, and economic resilience.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests through institutional private equity and sustainable-infrastructure funds — not an angel or seed investor; targets growth/buyout-stage companies and climate/infrastructure projects.
- Core sectors: sustainability and health — food and water security, energy independence and clean energy, climate adaptation/mitigation, wellness, and economic resilience.
- Impact-first mandate: the firm "integrates social and environmental factors into the investment process," seeking measurable positive impact alongside financial returns.
- Strong emphasis on blended/development finance — partnering with the Green Climate Fund, UNDP, and DFIs to deploy capital in emerging markets via the Sub-National Climate Fund and Global Fund for Coral Reefs.
- Hospitality and wellness real-assets exposure (e.g., the Six Senses luxury sustainable-hospitality investment) reflects a thesis tying brand, wellness, and environmental stewardship to returns.
