Background
David King is a Silicon Valley entrepreneur and angel investor with more than two decades of experience building consumer technology products. Early in his career he joined Google a few years after the company launched, where he primarily led a team working on machine learning for advertising products. He later left Google to pursue social networking and gaming ventures.
King created one of the first profitable social gaming networks — the Facebook-era company Green Patch (developer of applications such as "(Lil) Green Patch"), which he co-founded with Ashish Dixit. The network reached roughly 45 million players and was acquired by Playdom in 2009; Playdom itself was subsequently bought by The Walt Disney Company in 2010. After the Green Patch/Playdom exit, King launched Blippy — the brand later relaunched as a GIF-sharing/keyboard product for iOS. He remains associated with the Blippy domain ([hidden]).
Since exiting his own companies, King has been an active first-check angel investor, backing dozens of startups, many of which have gone on to billion-dollar-plus valuations. He also holds board seats — reported at hair-color brand Madison Reed and advanced-materials company Forge Nano (both since around October 2017).
In recent years King has focused his public writing and interviews on bitcoin, the nostr protocol, and AI. He publishes the "Curious DK" newsletter and podcast (also branded "Nostr Talks"), and serves as emcee, company curator, and video editor for the "Founders You Should Know" showcase.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Writes small, early first-round checks — reported at up to ~$25k per company — at the seed and occasionally Series A stage.
- Historically favors mobile, social, and education startups, aiming to add value through his own background in mobile, search, ads, and social gaming, plus his VC/angel network.
- Self-describes his interests as: "Startup Investor/Advisor. bitcoin. Entrepreneur. Ex-Googler." — signaling a growing tilt toward bitcoin, nostr, and AI-native companies.
- Says he loves to "organize communities, interview people, and write what I'm learning" — he tends to engage deeply with founders and ecosystems rather than invest passively.
