Background
David Knoch is a private equity operating executive who serves as Head of Strategic Services and a Partner at Irving Place Capital, a New York–based middle-market private equity firm that invests across consumer/retail, industrial, and packaging sectors and has backed more than 60 companies. He joined Irving Place Capital in 2004 and built its Strategic Services platform — a proprietary in-house capability designed to bring economic value to portfolio companies across risk management and insurance, employee/health benefits, purchasing and supply chain, treasury operations, real estate, and executive management services. He has more than 25 years of experience driving profit improvement through cost reduction, infrastructure building, and operations management.
Before Irving Place Capital, Knoch was a Senior Managing Director and Chief Administrative Officer at Alaris Consulting LLC. Earlier in his career he held a variety of operations and consulting roles at Tenneco, Inc. and at Arthur Andersen LLP. He earned both a B.B.A. and an M.B.A. from Loyola University of Chicago.
Knoch is also a Partner at Radial Equity Partners, a middle-market private equity firm spun out of the Irving Place Capital team around 2019–2020 that focuses on industrial and consumer businesses across the U.S. and Europe. At Radial he acts as an in-house senior operating resource, leading strategic initiatives supporting growth, profitability, governance, and best practices at portfolio companies. He sits on (or advises) several portfolio boards, including Clark-Reliance, Coker Tire, Lewisburg Patterson Company, MPG, Multi Parts, and Premier Dental.
Rather than a check-writing investor, Knoch's role is that of an operating/value-creation partner: his work centers on post-acquisition operational improvement, shared-services leverage across a portfolio, and board-level governance for the firms' industrial and consumer holdings.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Invests through control buyouts of established middle-market companies, not early-stage or seed rounds — the stub's "Angel / Seed Round" label does not match the firms' actual strategy.
- Sector emphasis on consumer/retail, industrial and manufacturing, packaging, healthcare/dental, and food & beverage businesses in the U.S. and Europe.
- At Radial, the stated approach is to invest "in sectors where the team has relevant prior experience and a network of industry relationships to support management teams," emphasizing collaborative, long-term partnership with founders and operators.
- Knoch's personal value-add is operational value creation — building shared-services infrastructure (insurance, benefits, procurement, treasury, real estate) that individual portfolio companies could not economically build alone.
- Prioritizes governance and best practices and hands-on board involvement over passive capital.
Notable Investments
- Premier Dental Products — fourth-generation, family-owned developer/manufacturer of dental consumables (Plymouth Meeting, PA); acquired by Radial in early 2025.
- Clark-Reliance Corporation — Strongsville, OH designer/manufacturer of liquid-level instrumentation, sight flow indicators, and filtration equipment; new Radial partnership to support organic growth and add-on acquisitions.
- Coker Tire Company — collector/vintage tire and wheel company; Knoch has held this board seat under both Irving Place Capital and Radial.
- Lewisburg Patterson Company / Lewisburg Printing Company — printing and packaging business.
- MPG and Multi Parts — industrial / auto-parts businesses.
- Dynojet Research, Plasticade, Thomas Precision Machining — additional Radial industrial portfolio holdings.
- Irving Place Capital portfolio context: Pet Supplies Plus (multi-location pet retailer) and other consumer/industrial/packaging companies among 60+ investments.
