Background
David Neithardt is a Miami-based private-equity investor with more than three decades of investment experience. He began his career in the corporate finance group of Smith Barney Inc. and later worked at Maplewood Partners LP, a private equity firm, before striking out to build his own middle-market investment platforms. He holds a B.S. in Industrial Engineering from Stanford University and an M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
In 2003 he co-founded 1848 Capital Partners LLC alongside Joe DaGrosa Jr. and John Sicilian — an independent middle-market private equity firm where he co-manages the firm and sits on its investment committee. Since inception, 1848 has invested more than $250 million of equity into its portfolio companies. Neithardt has held board seats at several 1848 portfolio companies, including Jet Support Services, Inc. (JSSI), Sunbelt Diversified Enterprises LLC, Big Apple Entertainment Partners LLC, and London Bridge Entertainment Partners LLC.
In 2015 he co-founded General American Capital Partners LLC (GACP), a private equity sponsor focused on control and minority investments to build shareholder value. In April 2020 he launched his own firm, Hammock Park Capital LLC, where he serves as Founder & Managing Partner. Today he is active largely through board leadership: he is Chairman of Synaptic Aviation Inc. (an AI software company serving the aviation sector) and a director of OWYN ("Only What You Need"), Brazil Tower Company LLC, and Quintasen Real Estate Master Fund LP (where he also sits on the investment committee).
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Middle-market private equity with a strong turnaround / value-creation orientation — buying and rebuilding operating businesses rather than pure early-stage venture bets.
- Comfortable with distressed and complex situations: 1848's signature early deal was acquiring 248 Burger King restaurants out of bankruptcy and rebuilding them into the #2 franchisee in the system before exit.
- Both control and minority/growth investments — his GACP thesis explicitly centers on "control and minority investments to build shareholder value."
- Sector breadth across aviation, consumer/food & beverage, telecom infrastructure, real estate, and entertainment, reflecting a generalist operator-investor style.
- Hands-on, governance-heavy engagement — he tends to take board seats (often chairman) rather than passive positions, so he backs companies where he can add operational and strategic oversight.
Notable Investments
- Heartland Food Corp. — Platform company (via 1848) that acquired 248 Burger King restaurants out of bankruptcy; grew into the second-largest franchisee in the Burger King system and was sold in December 2006 to GSO Capital Partners (now a Blackstone affiliate).
