Background

David Sherman is a career credit investor with 35+ years of investment-management experience. He founded Cohanzick Management, LLC in August 1996 and remains its Founder, President, and Senior Portfolio Manager. The firm is a Pleasantville, New York–based SEC-registered investment adviser whose name and philosophy nod to the Cohanzick Native American tribe of southern New Jersey — where Sherman was raised — with a stated ethos of "commitment, patience, and perseverance." Before founding Cohanzick, Sherman was a senior executive at Leucadia National Corporation, where he focused on corporate investments and acquisitions and served as Treasurer of the holding company's insurance operations. He holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Washington University in St. Louis.

In 2016 Sherman launched CrossingBridge Advisors, LLC (founded December 2016), where he serves as Founder and Chief Investment Officer and is portfolio manager across the CrossingBridge fund family. He previously served as portfolio manager and sub-adviser for the RiverPark/Cohanzick funds, most notably the RiverPark Short Term High Yield Fund (RPHYX), launched in 2010, which Morningstar recognized in 2020 for having generated the highest Sharpe ratio of any non–money market mutual fund over the prior decade.

In August 2022, CrossingBridge completed a reverse merger with Enterprise Diversified, Inc., forming the publicly traded holding company ENDI Corp. (OTCQB: ENDI), of which Sherman is a director and Chief Executive Officer. Cohanzick became the controlling shareholder of ENDI Corp. Sherman is a frequent commentator on credit markets, appearing on Real Vision, Bloomberg Intelligence's "Inside Active" podcast, and at industry roundtables, and he authors market commentary on the CrossingBridge blog.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests in corporate credit and fixed income, not venture equity — strategies span ultra-short and low-duration high yield, strategic/opportunistic income, responsible (ESG-screened) credit, Nordic high-yield bonds, and SPAC arbitrage.
  • Emphasizes capital preservation with high current income: the flagship short-term strategy holds ≥80% high-yield (BB or below) securities while keeping dollar-weighted average effective maturity under three years to limit duration and default risk.
  • Uses instruments including short-term corporate debt, U.S. government securities, preferred stock, convertible bonds, bank loans, and SPACs to harvest yield in the "money-market-plus" and short-duration space.
  • Core discipline, in his own framing: "You have to know what you own, and why you own it. 'This baby is a cinch to go up!' doesn't count." — a Peter Lynch line Cohanzick adopts as its guiding principle.
  • Pitches short-term junk credit as an ideal tool for navigating long-term risk — favoring bonds nearing maturity or with visible near-term catalysts where the return of principal is more predictable.

Notable Investments

  • RiverPark Short Term High Yield Fund (RPHYX) — Sherman/Cohanzick-managed short-duration high-yield fund launched 2010; cited by Morningstar in 2020 for the highest 10-year Sharpe ratio among non–money-market mutual funds; re-opened to all investors in October 2023.
  • RiverPark Strategic Income Fund (RSIVX / RSIIX) — opportunistic income strategy sub-advised by Cohanzick.
  • CrossingBridge Low Duration High Income Fund (CBLVX/CBLDX) — flagship CrossingBridge credit fund managed by Sherman.
  • CrossingBridge Ultra-Short Duration Fund and Ultra-Short Duration ETF — cash-management-plus credit strategies.
  • CrossingBridge Responsible Credit Fund and Nordic High Income Bond Fund — thematic/geographic credit strategies.
  • ENDI Corp. (OTCQB: ENDI) — 2022 reverse-merger combination of CrossingBridge Advisors and Enterprise Diversified, Inc.; Cohanzick is controlling shareholder and Sherman is CEO.
