Background

David Wolfson is a New York City–based entrepreneur and early-stage investor who co-founded Tectonic Capital in 2013 alongside Josef Feldman. Before Tectonic, he was involved with Prolific Venture Capital, which he founded in 2012 and where he served as a partner. His investing career, by his own accounts and third-party profiles, effectively began in 2013 through the launch of Tectonic Capital Management.

Wolfson's educational background includes studies at Loyola University Maryland (2008) and an MBA from Fordham University (2012), following earlier study at the Israel Torah Research Institute (2005). He has maintained close ties to the Israeli tech ecosystem, having been listed as a participating investor ("David Wolfson, partner at Tectonic Capital") in a Calcalist/SOSA NYC "Meet and Pitch" event connecting U.S. investors with Israeli startups.

Tectonic Capital is structured around the FoundersGuild — a founder-led investment group and community. FoundersGuild functions both as a micro-VC arm investing in pre-seed and seed technology companies (a portfolio of roughly 54 companies including several that reached unicorn status) and as a global founder community with chapters across North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America, offering events, workshops, and peer circles with, per its own materials, "no equity taken, no fees, and no gatekeeping." Portfolio companies are largely sourced through this network of participating founders and CEOs.

Wolfson remains active in the venture community — he was noted as a co-host of the Convergence 2026 Investor Summit, which gathered GPs and LPs at Cipriani 25 Broadway in New York.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests at pre-seed and seed in technology startups, with reported check sizes around $1.75M.
  • Sources deals through the FoundersGuild network — companies are chosen based on referrals and participation from a community of founders and CEOs rather than cold inbound.
  • Sector-agnostic within tech, with realized activity across consumer, fintech, logistics/marketplaces, proptech, and health/bio.
  • Geographically centered on the U.S., with additional investments in Germany and the UK.
  • Emphasis on founder quality and network trust — the FoundersGuild model treats a founder's standing within a peer community as a core signal for backing them.
