Background

Dominic Ang is the Founder and Managing Partner of Turn/River Capital, a San Francisco-based private equity firm he founded in 2012 that is 100% focused on B2B software. He brings more than 20 years of experience spanning software operations and technology investing. He began his career at Plumtree Software before moving into investing as an associate at Advent International and later a vice president at Vector Capital. Prior to founding Turn/River, he led the buyout of and became CEO of My Perfect Sale (later acquired by Sugar, Inc.), an operating experience that shaped Turn/River's operator-first, data-driven "growth engineering" philosophy.

At Turn/River, Ang leads the firm's investment process and its overall strategy. Rather than relying on the traditional leverage-heavy buyout playbook of financial engineering, the firm acquires controlling or growth stakes in profitable, high-growth enterprise software companies and layers on an in-house operational team to drive organic growth across marketing, sales, product, and go-to-market. He has personally led investments in companies including Mailgun and Applied Training Systems, and earlier deals in Sucuri (acquired by GoDaddy) and BookFresh (acquired by Square).

Ang holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of California, Berkeley, which he earned with High Honors. He is based in San Francisco, where Turn/River is headquartered.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • 100% B2B software / SaaS. Turn/River invests exclusively in technology, web, and SaaS businesses across enterprise applications, enterprise infrastructure, security, HealthTech, vertical SaaS, and business services.
  • Profitable, high-growth targets. The firm focuses on companies with roughly $5M–$50M in ARR and deploys approximately $50M–$200M per deal.
  • Deal types: growth capital, buyouts, recapitalizations, founder liquidity, spin-outs, and take-privates — control and growth-stage, not early/seed venture.
  • Operator-led "growth engineering." The firm's differentiator is an in-house operating team of former founders, operators, and investors who work hands-on with portfolio companies on sales, marketing, product, and operations to drive organic expansion — rather than financial engineering.
  • Says yes to durable, capital-efficient software businesses where an operational playbook can accelerate go-to-market performance and organic growth.

Notable Investments

  • SolarWinds — IT management software; Turn/River agreed to take the company private for ~$4.4B (~$18.50/share) in an all-cash deal announced February 2025.
  • Tufin — Network security policy management vendor; taken private by Turn/River for ~$570M.
  • StarLIMS — Laboratory information management software; received a strategic investment from Turn/River in January 2026.
  • Mailgun — Email API / developer infrastructure; investment led by Ang.
  • Sucuri — Website security and monitoring; acquired by GoDaddy.
  • BookFresh — Online scheduling software; acquired by Square.
  • Applied Training Systems — Training/compliance software; investment led by Ang.
  • PairSoft — Document/procurement automation software; exited to TA Associates in December 2025.
