Donald Walker

Donald J. Walker is a co-founder and Managing Director of Arbor Partners, an Ann Arbor, Michigan venture capital firm he helped launch in 1996. Arbor Partners is one of Michigan's oldest VC firms and invests exclusively in companies building the next generation of enterprise software, semiconductor, and advanced-materials technologies, backing capital-efficient, early- and growth-stage businesses primarily in the Midwest.

Before turning to venture investing, Walker spent more than two decades (1974–1996) in operating roles at Comshare, the Ann Arbor-based decision-support software company. He rose to Vice President of Sales and then Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, guiding the company through major platform transitions — from timesharing to mainframe and then to client/server — and helping establish "executive information systems" as a market category. He also drove Comshare's vertical push into retail-focused decision support and supply-chain management, and oversaw two acquisitions.

Walker has been an active private/angel investor in numerous startups. He was a seed investor in Network Express, which went public in 1994, and has served on the boards of CMS Technologies, Bluespring Software, Bulbs.com, Cohesia, Sircon Corporation, and Knowlagent. He is an advisor to the University of Michigan's Wolverine Venture Fund and a former board member of the New Enterprise Forum, reflecting a long-standing commitment to Michigan's entrepreneurial ecosystem. He studied philosophy (BA) at St. Paul's College in Washington, DC, and did business studies at Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts.
