Douglas George Boains

Douglas Boains is a finance and operations executive who spent the core of his career in institutional private-markets investing. He earned a BSBA in Accounting from Western New England University and an MBA from the University of Hartford. Early in his career he worked in corporate finance and financial reporting in the Hartford, Connecticut insurance/financial sector, including a role as Director of Financial Reporting at The Hartford.

For roughly a dozen years he was a Partner at Fairview Capital Partners, a West Hartford, Connecticut–based private-markets fund-of-funds founded in 1994 by Laurence C. Morse and JoAnn H. Price. There he served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer, and per SEC investment-adviser filings held the role of Chief Compliance Officer beginning February 2007. In these capacities he oversaw the firm's finance, fund administration, operations, risk and compliance functions across its venture capital, diverse/emerging-manager and co-investment programs, which manage capital for institutional investors such as public pension systems (including the Connecticut and Los Angeles pension plans). Trade press (Buyouts/Venture Capital Journal) noted his departure as one of a series of senior partner exits at the firm around 2018.

Boains subsequently moved to Raymond James Financial, where public professional directories list him as Director (and formerly Vice President), Alternative Investments Group, based in the St. Petersburg/Tampa, Florida area. In this role he works on the firm's alternative-investments platform — the vehicle through which Raymond James makes private equity, private credit, hedge fund and other alternative strategies available to advisors and clients.

His skill set, per his own professional profiles, centers on financial modeling and reporting, corporate finance and accounting, fund operations and administration, due diligence, risk management, compliance, and alternative investments.

• Boains's professional focus is institutional / operational, not personal angel investing. He has not published a personal "founder-facing" investment thesis, so no direct-quote thesis is available.
