Investment Thesis & Focus
- Middle-market direct lending, not venture: Provides financing solutions to mid-sized companies "with strong, sustainable cash flows" across a range of industries in North America — this is debt, not seed equity.
- Credit profile: Loans are typically senior secured, floating-rate, and conservatively structured with covenants, targeting borrowers with roughly $7.5M–$50M of EBITDA.
- Scale: The Kayne Anderson Private Credit platform has deployed over $14 billion in directly originated investments and manages $10B+ in credit assets.
- Stated approach (his own words): "We focus on continuing to build our platform of private credit offerings that serve our limited partners with reliable capital solutions." (on the firm's growth strategy)
- What makes them say yes: Established companies needing acquisition, buyout, refinancing, or growth debt financing — with defensible cash flows that support a covenanted, secured loan — rather than early-stage startups.
Notable Investments
- Kayne Anderson Fourth U.S. Middle Market Senior Credit Fund — closed April 2022; the fourth in the firm's senior credit fund series.
- Kayne Anderson BDC, Inc. — the firm's business development company vehicle used for middle-market lending.
- $14B+ in directly originated middle-market loans across the platform to date (borrower names not individually public).
