Background

Ed Goldstein is a Partner and Chief Investment Officer for Coller Credit Secondaries at Coller Capital, based in the firm’s New York office. Coller Capital describes itself as one of the world’s leading investors in the secondary market for private assets, offering private equity and private credit secondaries funds for institutional and private investors.

Goldstein joined Coller Capital in 2009. Before Coller, he was a Managing Director at GSO Capital Partners, working from the firm’s London and New York offices with responsibility for debt origination. Earlier in his career, he worked at Credit Suisse as a Director in the Investment Banking division.

He holds a BS in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from the University of Chicago. At Coller, he is part of the senior team that built the firm’s dedicated credit secondaries platform, including Coller Credit Opportunities I, which closed in 2022 with about $1.4 billion of commitments, and Coller Credit Opportunities II, part of a $6.8 billion credit-platform fundraising cycle announced in July 2025.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Focuses on private credit secondaries, especially LP-led portfolio purchases, GP-led continuation vehicles, and complex liquidity solutions for sellers.
  • CCO II targets senior direct lending and high-quality performing credit investments across both LP-led and GP-led opportunities.
  • Coller’s credit strategy emphasizes risk-adjusted returns, resilient performance through cycles, diversified exposure, and careful underwriting of underlying credit assets.
  • Coller’s private credit secondaries page states that success in the market requires understanding “the underlying loans that sit in these funds” and how the GP manages them, with superior data analysis and analytical capability described as key.
  • Goldstein has highlighted that private credit secondaries remain a young, undercapitalized, fast-growing market, with liquidity needs among LPs and GPs driving transaction flow.
  • He has also pointed to specialization within credit secondaries, including senior direct lending, distressed/opportunistic credit, asset-based finance, and NAV lending.
