Background
Elizabeth Runde is President and co-founder of Runde & Co. LLC, a Seattle-based, SEC-registered and majority woman-owned investment management firm she launched in 1992 alongside Casey Runde. The firm manages fundamentally driven, process-oriented equity investment strategies for both institutional and individual clients, and reports roughly $184 million in discretionary assets under management across about 142 accounts. Its clientele includes high-net-worth individuals, pension plans, charitable organizations, small businesses, and other investment advisers.
She brings more than a decade of large-institution experience predating the firm's founding. Runde began her investment-management career in 1982 at Citibank in New York, where she managed fixed-income assets in excess of $2 billion for International Private Banking clients. In 1986 she moved to J.P. Morgan & Co., Inc., managing more than $250 million in multicurrency equity and debt accounts. In 1988 she relocated to Hong Kong with J.P. Morgan to establish and manage an investment-management department, giving her direct international/cross-currency portfolio experience.
Runde is a graduate of Connecticut College and holds a graduate business degree from the New York University Graduate School of Business Administration (NYU Stern). Runde & Co. offers value-oriented U.S. equity strategies and an international/global strategy, positioning the firm as a boutique, research-led public-equity manager rather than a private-market or venture investor.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Manages fundamentally based, process-driven equity strategies — the firm's stated approach — for institutional and individual clients, in the *public* markets.
- Runs distinct value equity and international/global equity strategies (per the firm's strategy pages).
- Selects publicly traded companies through disciplined fundamental research; the firm does not publicly market startup, seed, or angel investing.
- Serves a broad discretionary client base: high-net-worth individuals, pensions, charities, small businesses, and other advisers.
- Founder's own edge draws on multicurrency/international institutional experience (Citibank, J.P. Morgan, Hong Kong), consistent with the firm's global strategy offering.
Notable Investments
- No angel/venture-stage portfolio companies could be verified — Runde & Co. is a separately managed account (SMA) manager investing in public equities, so it does not have named startup deals, rounds, or exits in the conventional venture sense.
- Public holdings are expressed through its value equity and international equity strategies (individual security-level positions are disclosed to clients and in regulatory/Morningstar strategy reports rather than as headline "deals").
