Background

Emiliano Kargieman is a serial technology entrepreneur best known as the founder and CEO of Satellogic, the Earth-observation satellite company he co-founded in 2010 with Gerardo Richarte after spending time at NASA's Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California. Satellogic builds and operates a vertically integrated constellation of sub-meter-resolution imaging satellites, aiming to remap the entire planet at high frequency and low cost. The company went public on Nasdaq (ticker: SATL) in January 2022 via a SPAC merger, and Kargieman continues to serve as CEO and a board member.

Before Satellogic, Kargieman founded Core Security Technologies in 1996, serving as its CEO and building what the company described as the first automated penetration-testing software, with customers including Apple, Cisco, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the NSA, NASA, Lockheed Martin and DARPA. He later co-founded and served as Managing Director of Aconcagua Ventures, a venture firm focused on investing in high-tech Latin American startups and scaling them into global businesses, and in 2009 co-founded GarageLab, a multidisciplinary "problem-solving laboratory" bridging science, technology, art and business. He has also worked as an independent consultant and served with the Special Projects Group at the World Bank.

Academically, Kargieman has a background in Number Theory and Philosophy, holds a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Buenos Aires, and earned an MBA from Harvard Business School. He is a member of the Forbes Technology Council and a frequent speaker on space, deep tech and entrepreneurship (e.g., Startup Grind Buenos Aires, WBR's DGI conference).

His angel activity is that of a founder-operator investing selectively rather than a full-time fund manager; his most direct exposure to venture investing has been through Aconcagua Ventures and, more recently, an advisory role at Starlight Ventures.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests as a founder-operator and angel, favoring deep-tech and frontier-technology startups — the same "hard problems" ethos behind Satellogic (space/geospatial) and Core Security (cybersecurity).
  • Through Aconcagua Ventures, his stated focus was investing in high-tech startups in Latin America and helping them become global businesses — regional roots, global ambition.
  • Early-stage orientation: recent recorded angel activity is at the pre-seed / seed level.
  • Advisory involvement with Starlight Ventures, a fund oriented toward "existential" and frontier science/technology bets, aligns with his interest in science-driven, high-impact companies.
  • Values technical depth and hard engineering: his own companies were built on defensible, hard-to-replicate technology (automated pen-testing; vertically integrated satellite manufacturing).

Notable Investments

  • Satellogic — Co-founded 2010; Earth-observation satellite constellation; public on Nasdaq (SATL) since 2022. His flagship venture rather than a passive investment.
  • Core Security Technologies — Founded 1996; pioneer in automated penetration testing; sold/exited (Kargieman led it until ~2015).
  • Aconcagua Ventures — Co-founder/Managing Director; venture vehicle for Latin American high-tech startups.
  • GarageLab — Co-founded 2009; multidisciplinary innovation lab.
  • Shorta — Angel investment recorded at the pre-seed stage (entertainment/software), with an investment date reported around January 2025.
