Background

Emmanuel Savioz is a Managing Partner at Aravis, a Swiss private equity and venture firm founded in 2001 by Jean-Philippe Tripet (a UBS and Lombard Odier alumnus) and based in Zurich. Over roughly two decades, Aravis's partners have deployed more than USD 400 million through four funds into innovative, scalable high-tech companies, and the firm has the distinction of having filed the first independent Swiss onshore limited partnership approved by FINMA. Savioz is part of the "Aravis Growth" team alongside Jean-Philippe Tripet, Jan Reinhart and Claudia Zimmermann, focused on growth funding in Switzerland across biotech, creative/digital, and industrial high-tech.

Savioz brings roughly 15 years of finance and business-development experience. Earlier in his career he worked in New York as an investment banker in mergers and acquisitions, handling large international transactions in the consumer goods and healthcare sectors. He has also built operating businesses internationally — reportedly building a USD 30 million business in Seoul with a local partner for a Swiss industrial company — and has arranged on the order of CHF 62 million of equity financing for high-tech companies in Switzerland.

He is a serial company founder as well as an investor. Savioz founded TOLREMO therapeutics AG (an oncology/drug-resistance biotech, 2017), Phi Pharma SA (a Sion-based pharma company where he is co-founder, chairman and CFO, founded 2012), Tigen (Lausanne, 2017), and HYT SA (a luxury hydro-mechanical watchmaker, 2010, where he serves as secretary and director). He is also a co-founder and director of Preciflex SA, the technology company behind HYT's fluidic-display systems.

Savioz holds an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. He has also served as a former member of the Admissions Committee of the MBA program at IMD in Lausanne.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Backs innovative, scalable high-tech companies — the core Aravis mandate is enabling technology to "scale up" companies, taking leading positions as a hands-on investor that balances finance, commercial assets and people.
  • Sector concentration: biotech/life sciences and medical devices, IT & TMT/digital, media, energy, and industrial high-tech.
  • Stage: as an individual he is profiled as an angel/early-stage (seed) investor; through Aravis he participates in larger venture and growth rounds (Aravis funds have written into multi-million-franc financings such as Novimmune and Telormedix).
  • Founder-operator lens: he co-founds and sits on the boards of the companies he backs (HYT, Preciflex, Phi Pharma, TOLREMO, Tigen), favoring deep operational involvement over passive capital.
  • Geography: a strong bias toward Swiss-domiciled companies and the broader European high-tech ecosystem.

Notable Investments

  • HYT SA — Swiss luxury watch brand known for fluid-based "hydro-mechanical" displays; co-founder/director and investor (participated in a ~USD 23M Series C in 2016 alongside Patrick Berdoz and Peter Brabeck-Letmathe).
  • Preciflex SA — the underlying fluidic-technology company powering HYT's displays; co-founder and director.
  • Phi Pharma SA — Sion-based pharmaceutical company (Series A); co-founder, chairman and CFO, founded 2012.
  • TOLREMO therapeutics AG — oncology biotech developing approaches to prevent drug resistance in cancer therapy; founded 2017.
  • Tigen — Lausanne-based venture founded 2017.
  • Novimmune (via Aravis) — biopharma that closed a CHF 60 million financing round (2014).
  • Telormedix (via Aravis) — closed a CHF 6 million Series B (2013).
