Background
Enid Tian, also listed in Chinese as 田育欣, was part of Team AppWorks from its early period. AppWorks’ own author bios say she joined in 2011 as an intern, later became an investment analyst, and then moved into leading AppWorks School.
In 2013, AppWorks described Tian as an Analyst responsible for conducting industry research and using those findings to help AppWorks startups. Her writing from that period focused on startup ecosystems, Silicon Valley, founder culture, talent, and venture capital.
By 2016, Tian was Head of AppWorks School, the education arm AppWorks launched to train software talent for Taiwan’s internet and digital industries. She wrote multiple AppWorks School posts from 2016 to 2019 about iOS training, self-directed programming education, women entering software engineering, and software talent supply-demand gaps.
The public evidence supports Tian’s past roles at AppWorks and AppWorks School. I did not find reliable public evidence that she is currently on AppWorks’ team page or that she is actively making personal angel investments under her own name.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Public sources do not show a personal angel-investing thesis, personal check size, or personally attributed investment criteria for Tian.
- During her AppWorks analyst period, she worked on industry research to support AppWorks startups, so the most defensible investment context is AppWorks’ early-stage technology focus rather than a standalone personal thesis.
- AppWorks says its funds invest from US$200K to US$15M per deal and participate from Seed through Series C.
- AppWorks’ current stated focus is founder support, capital, mentorship, recruiting, and access to its founder network.
- AppWorks has emphasized AI and Web3/blockchain since 2017 and describes its regional focus as Asia / Greater Southeast Asia.
- In Tian’s 2013 Silicon Valley reflection, she highlighted talent and culture as central to startup success, quoting the idea: “You have to get the right people before you can build the right products.”
