Background

Eric Epstein is a Partner at Healthier Capital, a health-tech venture capital firm founded by former One Medical CEO Amir Dan Rubin. Healthier Capital closed a $220 million oversubscribed inaugural fund in January 2026 to back early-stage companies at the intersection of healthcare and technology.

Before Healthier Capital, Epstein was a Partner at Santé Ventures, an early-stage healthcare venture capital firm. Santé’s 2019 announcement said he joined the investment team as a Senior Associate to support due diligence, deal execution, and portfolio support, with a focus on healthcare services, AI/ML, and digital health technologies. Healthier Capital’s bio says he later led Santé’s health-tech practice and invested in companies at the intersection of healthcare and technology.

Earlier in his career, Epstein worked at McKinsey & Company in Silicon Valley on healthcare operations improvement and strategy, including work with large U.S. health systems. Santé’s announcement described him as an Engagement Manager who developed growth and transformation strategies for medical device manufacturers, behavioral health providers, and public healthcare systems.

Epstein also has startup operating experience from Social Nation, a Y Combinator 2012 company, and viagogo, the ticket marketplace that later acquired StubHub for $4.05 billion in 2021. He holds an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and BA degrees in Economics and Psychology from Georgetown University.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Healthier Capital’s stated thesis is to “partner with technology-powered innovators to advance healthier outcomes for all,” combining healthcare expertise with technology-enabled business models.
  • The firm focuses on companies that improve healthcare outcomes while creating significant value, especially where AI and modern information technology can be applied to care delivery, clinical workflows, diagnostics, and operations.
  • Healthier Capital emphasizes multi-stakeholder value: companies should work for patients, clinicians, payers, employers, health systems, and other parts of the healthcare ecosystem, rather than improving one stakeholder’s experience at another’s expense.
  • The team looks for evidence of product-market fit, realistic revenue models, strong execution, thoughtful capital needs, and the potential for both meaningful patient outcomes and venture-scale returns.
  • Epstein’s personal background points to a focus on operationally complex healthcare markets: he has worked across venture investing, consulting, company formation, product-market fit, fundraising, and startup growth.
  • On adolescent mental healthcare, Epstein has flagged complexity as an investor concern, citing minors’ protected status, differentiated clinical needs by age, and distribution challenges through parents and schools.
