Background

Eric Resnick is the co-founder and CEO of KSL Capital Partners, a global private equity firm that invests exclusively in the travel and leisure industry. He co-founded the firm in 2005 and today chairs its Management and Investment Committees. Under his leadership KSL has become one of the largest dedicated travel-and-leisure investors in the world, having raised roughly $25 billion of capital since 2005 and completed more than 185 investments across the sector. The firm currently runs parallel strategies including KSL Capital Partners VI (its ~$2 billion private equity fund that closed in March 2024), KSL Tactical Opportunities, and KSL Credit funds.

Before KSL, Resnick served as Chief Financial Officer of KSL Recreation, the firm's predecessor operating company, from 2001 to 2005. Earlier, from 1996 to 2001, he was an executive at Vail Associates (the operator of Vail Mountain), where he was Vice President of Strategic Planning and Investor Relations. He began his career as a consultant at McKinsey & Company. This operator-and-advisor background underpins KSL's self-described "operator-first" investment approach.

Resnick holds a B.A. with distinction in Mathematics and Economics from Cornell University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Beyond KSL, he sits on several industry and civic bodies: he was appointed to the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City's Economic Advisory Council effective January 1, 2025, and is a member of IREFAC (Industry Real Estate Financing Advisory Council), the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), and the Real Estate Roundtable. He has served as a Trustee of the U.S. Ski & Snowboard Foundation and on the advisory board of the University of Colorado Cancer Center.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Single-sector specialist: KSL invests *exclusively* in travel & leisure, leaning on what the firm calls a 30-year track record to "identify and execute on investments" others can't underwrite as confidently.
  • Operator-first mindset: The firm pairs capital with deep operating expertise (hotels, resorts, clubs, ski and recreation), reflecting Resnick's own operator roots at Vail and KSL Recreation.
  • "Mass affluent" consumer: Resnick has publicly framed KSL's strategy around the durable spending power of mass-affluent travelers and the long-run secular growth of travel, which he notes has grown at nearly twice the rate of GDP for roughly six decades.
  • Experiences over things / "attention as currency": In 2025 commentary he emphasized the shift of consumer spending toward experiences and the premium on capturing consumer attention as a driver of value in travel & leisure.
  • Multi-strategy capital: Beyond control private equity, KSL deploys flexible capital through Tactical Opportunities and a dedicated Credit platform, letting it invest across the capital structure within its sector.
