Eric Sledgister

Eric Sledgister is a Chicago-based investor with roughly two decades of corporate development, finance, and investing experience concentrated in the education and human-capital sector. He earned a bachelor's degree with a concentration in finance from Washington University in St. Louis and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), holding membership in the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Chicago. He began his career in 1999 in equity research at Credit Suisse, joining the sell-side team covering the education services and training sector; he later expanded that coverage to include business process outsourcing, information technology, and diversified services.

He spent more than eight years at Apollo Education Group (parent of the University of Phoenix). For roughly seven of those years he sat in Apollo's Corporate Development group, where he sourced, evaluated, and executed acquisitions globally — much of it through Apollo Global, the multibillion-dollar joint venture with The Carlyle Group that acquired education businesses across Australia, Brazil, Chile, Germany, India, Mexico, South Africa, and the U.K. He then moved into operating finance, serving as Chief Financial Officer of Apollo's Professional Development Group (an enterprise-focused training venture) and, in a dual capacity, as CFO of The Iron Yard, the multi-location IT coding bootcamp Apollo had backed.

In November 2017, Sledgister joined Maxim Partners LLC — a Chicago lower-middle-market private equity firm (est. 1996) investing in education, fitness, and nutrition/wellness — as Principal overseeing the firm's education vertical and supporting its wellness activities. At the time he said, "The education sector continues to evolve and I see endless opportunities to partner with providers of quality education and services to accelerate their growth."

Today he is a Partner on the investments team at Vanta Global, a Chicago private equity firm founded in 2022 by former Apollo Education Group co-CEOs Gregory Cappelli and Chas Edelstein and focused on the education, training, and human-capital industry. Vanta launched via a strategic partnership with The Vistria Group's Knowledge & Learning team, anchored by an initial $250M allocation from Vistria Fund IV to pursue platform investments in international education and corporate training/workforce readiness.
