Background
Eric Uijen is publicly identified by PME Pensioenfonds materials as “voorzitter uitvoerend bestuur PME” (chairman of the executive board of PME). PME is the Dutch pension fund for people working in the metal and technology industry; the fund says it has served the sector for more than 75 years and works for nearly 350,000 employers and employees in the metal and technological industry.
PME’s governance model separates a general board, non-executive directors, and three executive directors. The executive board is responsible for PME’s day-to-day management, policy execution within the board’s framework, and oversight of outsourcing partners. PME materials from 2024 and October 2025 attribute columns and investment commentary to Uijen as chairman of the executive board.
As of the current PME board page, however, Uijen is no longer listed among the board members; the current English board page lists Alae Laghrich as chairman of the executive board, Marcel Andringa as executive board member for asset and liability management, and Bart Harmsen as executive board member for risk management, compliance, finance, planning & control, and IT. No public source found in this research verified Uijen’s education.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- PME’s stated investment frame is “a good pension in a livable world,” combining pension returns with sustainability goals.
- PME invests across public and private markets, including listed equities, corporate bonds, government bonds, real estate, private equity, infrastructure, forestry, mortgages, and microfinance.
- PME prefers to invest “close to home” where possible, especially in the Dutch and European metal, manufacturing, and high-tech sectors that overlap with its participants’ employers.
- PME invests through external asset managers and funds. Its disclosed private-equity managers include ARA Partners, DeeptechXL, Innovation Industries, Forbion Capital Partners, Gilde Healthcare Partners, Prime Ventures, Vista Equity Partners, TPG Capital, and others.
- Uijen tied PME’s defense-tech investment to European security and industrial resilience, saying the Keen defense-tech fund fits PME’s policy of investing in innovative tech startups and scale-ups to strengthen technological progress and the competitiveness of the Netherlands and Europe.
- PME excludes fossil energy, tobacco, fur, the sex industry, civilian weapons, controversial weapons, and sanctioned countries. It distinguishes defense investing from excluded weapons categories, stating that defense remains important while drawing a line at controversial weapons and civilian weapons.
