Background

Erwan Macé is a French-born, Singapore-based tech entrepreneur and full-stack software engineer with 25+ years of experience building and leading global engineering teams. Before founding his own companies, he held senior roles at Google, Vivendi, Akamai, and Alcatel. He holds a Master's in Management Sciences from Paris-Dauphine University and a Master's in Information Systems Engineering from Institut Mines-Télécom, along with a cybersecurity certificate from MIT Professional Education and a technical OSINT certificate from Black Hat.

Macé is best known as the founder of Bitsmedia, the Singapore startup behind Muslim Pro — one of the world's most popular lifestyle apps for the global Muslim community, offering prayer times, Qibla direction, and Quran features. He founded Bitsmedia in 2010 after his time on Google's Southeast Asia team, and grew Muslim Pro to tens of millions of downloads (later surpassing 170 million) on a fully bootstrapped basis over roughly seven years. In 2017, CMIA Capital Partners and Affin Hwang Asset Management acquired a majority stake (reported at 85–95%) in Bitsmedia in a deal valued at an eight-figure USD sum; Macé remained a minority shareholder and continued as CEO to lead the app's development.

His entrepreneurial track record includes earlier exits at Spray (acquired by Lycos, 2000) and Soundbuzz (acquired by Motorola, 2008). More recently he has founded or co-founded a portfolio of ventures including Dobin (a personal-finance / creditworthiness platform he co-founded in 2022 with Khaled Benguerba), Catho+ (a Catholic companion app), Connect Messenger (secure messaging), and MyCyberHome (mobile security). He was also a volunteer contributor on Singapore's TraceTogether COVID-19 contact-tracing effort.

Investment Thesis & Focus

  • Invests as an individual angel in early-stage, founder-led software and mobile startups, primarily in Singapore and Southeast Asia.
  • Leans toward sectors he has operated in himself — consumer mobile apps, proptech, and fintech — where his engineering and product background adds value.
  • Describes himself as a "tech entrepreneur and full-stack software engineer with 25+ years of experience leading global engineering teams and building innovative web and mobile products," signaling a preference for technically strong, product-driven teams.
  • Participates in seed/angel rounds alongside other operator-angels rather than leading institutional rounds.

Notable Investments

  • Propseller — Singapore proptech / real-estate brokerage; Macé (as Muslim Pro founder) joined the angels backing its S$1M seed/angel round announced December 2018.
  • Krak — early-stage venture in the recreational/consumer goods space (listed among his angel investments).
