Background
Eunice Shin is a Los Angeles-based consumer, media and technology strategist. She is currently founder and CEO of The Elume Group, a brand and growth strategy consultancy she founded in 2024 to help brands regain relevance with consumers and culture. Elume describes its services as brand positioning, go-to-market strategy, consumer research, consumer targeting, experience design and omnichannel growth strategy.
Before Elume, Shin was a partner at Prophet, where she focused on media, entertainment and direct-to-consumer strategy. In 2020, Prophet-related conference materials described her as helping clients win through content and experience, with a DTC focus across content, commerce and community. Her client experience cited there included Disney, Warner Media, Sony, Electronic Arts, LA Summer Olympics 2028 and AT&T.
Shin joined Manatt Digital Media in April 2014 as a director after roles at Cognizant Business Consulting, Strategic Vision Consulting and Accenture. Manatt’s announcement said she had more than 17 years of business management and technology consulting experience at that time, including work in entertainment, digital media, social media and new technology. Conference biographies later identified her as managing director and head of consulting for Manatt Digital, where she led digital strategy and business development services for entrepreneurs and senior executives.
Her investor relevance comes from Manatt Digital / Manatt Venture Fund. LA Games Conference materials state that she analyzed and assessed potential digital media and technology investment opportunities for Manatt Venture Fund, which focused on early-stage participation in promising digital media companies. Public sources also say Manatt Venture Fund was funded by partner capital and prioritized seed and early-stage investments.
Investment Thesis & Focus
- Through Manatt Venture Fund, Shin’s investment-adjacent focus was early-stage digital media and technology companies, especially businesses tied to media, entertainment, content, social platforms and emerging consumer behavior.
- Manatt Digital’s model combined consulting, legal services and venture capital for companies from startup through growth stage and mature public companies.
- Shin’s own stated Manatt Digital view was that “Digital media is the new language” for reaching audiences, and that companies need a comprehensive strategy for using digital-media trends.
- Her current Elume thesis centers on consumer and cultural relevance: Elume says many brands have “a cultural blind spot” despite having data, playbooks and martech, and that it helps brands understand the people and forces shaping what consumers want next.
- Across Prophet and Elume, her operating lens emphasizes direct customer engagement, DTC growth, content, commerce, community, consumer research and cultural literacy.
